I just had my 3rd book get marked as "lost" in the mail. They were all PBS postage and DC, and track to being delivered. This last recipient was left a notice by the post office, left the book unclaimed and it now says its enroute to memphis TN, but I live in IL. I just want to know if I will be negatively effected by this or not? I did send the books and they got to their destinations according to the scans.

I wouldn't worry about it because the scans show the books being mailed. If anything it would be the recipients they would look into. But only if it looked like the account was abandoned or they had a high rate of lost books.

They don't disclose the # because then people would play the system.   They look at the overall trend of the account.

As long as they can see that you did what you were supposed to do, mail the book, I'm sure you're fine.

They know that no one can control what a receiver does or does not do, nor what happens once the packaged are handed over to the P.O.

If you're really concerned, I'd re-evaluate how you're wrapping your books. If you think you're doing a good job, then I wouldn't sweat it.

If they are scanned as delivered then have you contacted the receiver? In the Help Docs it says you should. If they don't respond let the Team know through the Contact Us link.

Here's the section:

If you sent the book with Delivery Confirmation and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:

  • Remember that the book could have been scanned as "delivered" at the local PO, before it went to the requestor's mailbox--the actual delivery can be a few days later  Also, the book could have been misdelivered.
    • The requestor should check with her mail carrier about this package.
    • The package could also be at her local PO being held for pickup; sometimes pickup notices left by the mail carrier go astray.
  • You should FIRST contact the requestor using the button on the transaction on the Books I've Mailed tab in My Account when a few days have passed after delivery.
    • If the requestor does not respond to your PM within a week, and/or has not marked the book received by a week after the delivery scan, contact us.  We will look into it.
    • If the requestor responds and says she or he DID get the book, she or he can mark the book received one of two ways:
      • if the book has NOT been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her active transactions (on the En Route to Me tab on My Account) as described in How to Mark a Book Received.
      • if the book HAS been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her Transaction Archive (linked from the top of the My Account page)  as described in I received a book that was 'lost in the mail'.
  • If you used DC purchased through PBS, or PBS Printed Postage, you will already have gotten your credit for sending the book.

Shouldn't be a problem Monique, especially when using DC.  If TPTB have reason to review your account, they will see enroute scans proving you mailed.

I always wrap in bubble mailers because I just trust them more for water proofing reasons, so I don't think my wrapping is at fault.

I have contacted the people but they have never replyed to the messages. This latest one seems like it must be on its way back to me.

FYI If the book was mailed under Media Mail rates and is being returned Monique, it will arrive postage due.  Return postage is not covered by Media Mail rates.  Sorry so many of your books are going lost  broken heart

Thank you for telling me that, how do you pay for it? We live in an apartment complex so we don't have a postal worker that comes to our door or mailbox. Do they just leave a note in the box and you pick it up at the mail center?

Yes, you will probably be notified with an insert in your mailbox.

There may be something in the HELP documents regarding members that muff the receiving end of a transaction.
