I can't seem to locate that number.  Does anyone know?  I'm just curious as not everyone sets up a profile.

Well according to the Pulse of PBS there are  22,272  members with a public profile but theres no way to know how many members there are without profiles. I always double the amount of PPs there are as an estimate so my estimate is that there are 44544 members.

I think I'm getting psychic or something Chris.  I just KNEW that you would be the one to respond!

It really bugs me that not everyone at least allows their state to be listed.  I want to know how many members are near me.

Im apperently honed in on your mental wavelength. (I read that phrase in a book recently and thought it was so absurd that I would have to use it somewhere and you provided me the perfect opporunity)

I dont mind not seeing the states. I figure people dont provide them because of security reasons. Some people like to remain faceless (or well nameless) My mouth is too big for that. I like talking and typeing.

Me too.  I suppose I'd be more careful about security myself if not for the fact that so much info. is out there about me anyway because of my line of work.

I just think it would be nice to know if there are people close by because I could save on postage that way, maybe get some local gatherings together, etc.

You could do a thread in the Chapters forum to see if there would be any interest in a gathering.

I think I'll do that this fall after school starts up again.  I think it would be fun to set something up.  Thanks for the suggestion.

i really think it shouldn't be an option to have a screen name. people shouldn't have to have a "profile", just a nickname.

I notice a fair number of people don't list how many books they've traded.  I'm not really sure why.  Personally, I like to overwhelm people with the numbers of books I've received, thereby establishing myself as a well-read intellectual.  Of course, many of them are Dr. Seuss books.

One thing that is a pet peeve to me.  We set up ourselves with a nickname, it's required.  Yet, no one in the forums uses them.  I was almost insulted when someone replied to one of my posts and said, "Robin, xyz"  using my name rather than my nickname, Sianeka.  Except that it would be silly to get angry over such a small and ridiculous thing.  However, I belong to several other groups and use my nickname exclusively.

Why bother with the nickname then if no one here is going to use it?  I'd change my profile to not show my real first name if I could, except that that's also used for the mailing labels and I don't want the post office to lose my precious books.

Sianeka, you can change your name to just your first initial a lot of people do that. LG for instance or RKE as for the nicknames. I get both manny and Chris.

Oh and the books recieved and mailed shows sorta where you live so if you dont want that public you would opt to not show the info. I think that the map part should be removed so that the stats can be shown without showing the general whereabouts of a person.
