I want to post a book that is a paperback (not an ARC): The Cage by Audrey Schulman.  The  ISBN printed on the book is 9781565120358.

This ISBN shows as a Hardcover in the PBS system but when you look at the description page, there's the notation:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ISBN REFERS TO BOTH THE HARDCOVER AND PAPERBACK VERSION OF THIS BOOK!

Would you post this book under this ISBN, or would you use the "Post without an ISBN" feature?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out with this question.

I'd post it without the ISBN.  This note is just making clear that the publisher re-used the ISBN.  PBS still requires the 4 points, including binding, to match.

That's what my gut was telling me, but I hate using that feature - those books seem to sit on my shelf forever.

Oh well, I don't want to break the 4 point rule, so I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and put it in the system that way.

Thanks for your response.

I will go to the main book detail page and add a Tag with the short ISBN on it. This really helps with WL books. Not so much with available books.

Another tip: add the actual ISBN in the book description area when you post it using the Post A Book Without An ISBN feature (which is the only way to list it here if the four main posting criteria in the listing don't match your copy of the book -- title, author, ISBN, and book/binding type.)  Adding the actual ISBN in the description area will allow your short-PBS-ISBN book to come up on searches done by ISBN.

I second the use of tags, but not only tagging the hardcover listing with your  PBS-ISBN tag, but also tagging the short PBS-ISBN listing with a "similar to ISBN 9781565120358" tag.

Thanks for the suggestions!

While I'm here, let me ask another posting question . . .

I just picked up an audio cassette book (unabridged) by Janet Evanovich - Twelve Sharp - ISBN: 0792742397.

When I did a search for this ISBN, the system can't find anything, although it does show another unabridged version of this book with a different ISBN.

Is there a way to get this particular book into PBS's system so that I don't have to use the 'list without ISBN' on this book as well, since it does have one?

Thanks in advance for your help - Again!

When we do searches by ISBN, it should trigger the system to go looking for the ISBN on other databases.  I will search for it, then come back in half an hour and search again.

This is much quicker if Amazon lists the book by this ISBN, as that seems to be one of the first databases our computer system searches.  (This is also how we get some funky listings, as some other database has mistakes that the computer copies.)

In addition, you can post it by the ISBN if PBS does not have it in the database.  You will need to enter the data.  I know this was just answered in another thread by one of the data people.  I'll see if I can find it and copy.

Yes.  From Melanie.  (a book data volunteer)

You do not need to post a book with an ISBN as a book without and ISBN, you can add it to the database by its ISBN. Instead of searching for the ISBN, go to the Post Books page and enter the ISBN. When the ISBN isn't recognized, as long as you have entered a valid ISBN, a screen should open for you to enter the information for that ISBN to add it to the database.

Thanks for all this info Emily!

I always try to add book descriptions when there's none, or correct what I can - I like to help make PBS as complete as possible.

I will keep this info handy for the next time this comes up - since my memory isn't what it used to be. :)
