Thought I'd check in with y'all to see how we're doing with the challenges. Half the new year is over already. Don't blink. It'll be the holidays.

I've read 9 of the 11 books for the #1 HF challenge. I have to read a book for the Habla Espanol and Continuing Saga categories. I'm thinking about Chapultepec by Norman Zollinger and Ghengis: Lords of the Bow by Conn Iggulden, respectively.

For the alphabet challenge, I have 9 books to go (letters A, D, E, F, I, N, Q, V and Y).

For historical mystery, I have read 3/6. I'm not sure I'll finish this challenge. I have to be in the mood to read mystery. And my latest obsession is fantasy.

I've read 2/6 in the historical fantasy challenge. I'm looking forward to finishing this one.

How are you all doing?

Funny you should ask.  I was just figuring this out.

I've read 6/11 for the first challenge.

I still have 12 books to go for the alphabet challenge.

I've read 3/6 of the historical mysteries.

And a whopping 0/6 for the Fantasy.

BUT: I'm home alone this weekend, and the TV is broken.  What shall I do....

Let's see, I have 2 books yet to read for Challenge #1 : Where Dat At, and Roots

I still have the letters N, Q, U, X and Z in the alphabet challenge.

I have 2 more books to read in the Mystery challenge: Murder on the Water and Royal Who- dunnit.

4 more books to read for the fantasy challenge.

And then there is the M/T challenge from that forum!! (about 6, I think)

I'm an HF light-weight compared to you guys.  I only have one left to do for Challenge #1...my "alternate" category Bernard Cornwell Rampage.  I'm not doing the others.

I'm a little over halfway through my Christian Fiction Challenge.

My other reading goals for the year were to read 100 books (hich I'm a little behind on...I'll probably only hit around 90) and reduce my TBR by 40.  I think was all know how that one is going.

Mostly done

One book for challenge 1, alternative history just can't get myself to read it.....

Two books for the mystery challenge, water one and devil one

I have a couple I want to read for historical fantasy.

I finished the mystery/thriller forum challenge

I have one from games forum to read one book a month from an exiisting series I am reading. Very easy to do.

How about one of the Merlin/King Arthur books by Lawhead, Mary Stewart or Cornwell? Also, if you haven't already used it, you can swap out this category and name one of your own (per the alternate category).

For Challenge 1, I have 2 left:   Where Dat At? and  Whodunit?

For Challenge 2, I have 2 left:     X  and   Z

For HF Mystery, I have 1 left:    Murder on the Water

For HF Fantasy, I have 3 left.   I'm pretty sure I'll be reading Outlander next for this one.

Evelina I can't wait to see what you think about Outlander.  I was so impressed with this book, still one of my favorites.

I lack one book for the Challenge #1 - Continuing Saga, and actually I've read a couple of the Morland Dynasty series this past week; and started and read books 1 and 2 of the Wintercombe series - neither one of which I listed back when we started the challenge, and I'm rather obsessive about doing what I said I'd do so guess I'll go ahead and read a Sharpe, to satisfy this category.

I also lack only one book in the mystery challenge, the "devil" or graveyard title.  Still looking for one I haven't already read.

I'm missing quite a bit, more than I thought...

For the alphabet -  I'm missing N, Q, V, and X

Category challenge - I'm missing Where Dat At?, Birthday Book, and Read A Winner

Mystery challenge - missing - Solve A Mystery at Home and Royal Who-dunnit

Fantasy - I've read two and I'm halfway through with my 3rd one. .

I already have books for everything except the last two mystery ones - mystery at home and royal who-dunnit. I need to find something for those two.

I'm doing pretty good on the challenges but I get distracted easily and read books that were not in my master plan.

Challenge #1 - I am missing Habla Espanol and Continuing Saga

I'm a big Isabel Allende fan, so I should have no problem with the Habla Espanol category, but I have become obssessed with European historical fiction (the Tudors) and now I am absorbed into 12th century Wales with Here Be Dragons. I may not want to leave Wales for awhile.

Challenge #2 -  I am missing the letters Q, S and U

I have plenty of books in my TBR that would qualify for the challenges, so I just have to get around to it.

I'm only doing the first one and have 5 books left - I got a little distracted from my reading plan the last few months with new releases...

I've been a slow reader this year.  But I think I'm like 3 away from finishing the first, I'm not too concerned about trying to finish the alphabet challenge - I knew I probably wouldn't be able to complete both!

Just returned from a 5-day family vacation so am trying to catch up with all the posts. Finished two challenge books: The Physician by Gordon and Morality Play by Unsworth. Both were excellent -- the first, a very long sweeping saga set in the 11th c. and the second, a very short murder mystery (sort of) set in the 14th c.

For the most part, I'm doing well with the challenges (see below) -- but am feeling ambivalent about them. On one hand, I've loved figuring out what books to read for them and I've liked almost all of the books that I've read; on the other hand, I have found myself putting off books that I'm eager to read because they don't fit into the challenges; on the third hand, I've read books that I might not have read; on the fourth hand, the pressure I put on myself to complete the challenges is absurdly disproportionate to their importance. I have to constantly remind myself that the challenges are just a fun but ultimately meaningless exercise, just a fun but ultimately meaningless exercise, just a fun but ultimately meaningless exercise, just a fun.....

(Hey, what's my prize for completing these challenges????)

You get to hold the wet noodle for a day. I would be a little concerned about that much power being held by Deb.

Wow -- wielding the wet noodle for a whole 24 hours -- hhmm (flexing her muscles and salivating... oh, I mean, smiling benevolently with halo glow overhead as the wet noodle magically turns into an angel's wand to be used to promote goodness and charity...)

My hats off to Alice and everyone who has finished any challenge..anywhere! smiley

I've decided, since I made a vow to read different books for all the challenges...I'm not doing the Historical Fantasy challenge that some sadistic enthusiastic person created.  Not duplicating books is my own 'enthusiastic' challenge for myself.  I'm like Deb, I tend to stress a bit over these for some odd reason.  But I also want to finish what I start.  The best part was choosing each book..LOL.  Next time, can we just choose books?  Dream Challenge?
