Do you usually read one book at a time or do you always have multiple books going at once?

I'm a one at a time kida gal. Not sure why, but I can't bring myself to start another book while I'm already in the middle of one. Even when I get a pre-order in the mail I'm rushing to finish what I've got going before starting it. The one recent time I had multiple books going at once I didn't finish any of them!

I usually have more than one, because I like to start a new book when I go to the gym. I'm okay with two, but sometimes I wind up with three or four and that makes me kind of crazy.

I usually only read 1 at a time, but right now I'm reading 2. I started the first one, but can't really get into it, so I started another. I'm not sure if I'll even go back to the first now.

I usually have a couple going at a time. I usually have an unpostable (or 2) going.  I like to keep one in the bathroom and one in the car.  Books that are already damaged so if they get ruined further it's no big deal.  I usually have at least 1 (sometimes 2) audio books going. I have 3 going right now and it's getting hard to keep up with them.  I have 1 going in the car because I got from the library and it's cassettes. That's the only place I can play cassettes anymore.  I have 2 going on my IPOD. One is done up in 45m segments so I only listen when I know I have that much time-like when walking the dog. One is done is shorter segments so if I only a short time I can listen w/o worrying about having to replay a large segment because I hit the wrong button or something.

Then I usually have a nice book (usually WL or game book) going that I read when I can just sit and read and not worry about it getting stained, wet or ruined in some way.

I liken it to following several TV shows at once. Afterall, I'm able to keep up with All 3 CSI, Bones, Criminal Minds and a few others and I only get to visit them once a week.

One at a time for me.  I have so little time to read as it is, there is no way I could manage more than that!  I do sometimes start a book, decide I'm not in the mood for it, or just can't get into it for some reason, and then start another, but that's not really the same as reading more than one book at once.  When I read a book, I like to really immerse myself in it, and I think that trying to keep up with more than one storyline at a time would be distracting.

I like mine in pairs, just like my men!  LOL Just kidding!!!  Seriously, I usually on read one at a time but if I'm reading a book I can't really get into, I'll switch back and forth between books.

pretty much one at a time.  occasionally if i'm reading an anthology i'm not in the mood for, or something i really want comes in to the library, i'll switch off and come back and finish it later, but usually that's it.

I'm a one at a time person.  If I pick up a second book after I've started something else, it's usually because I can't finish it.

I usually read one at a time. I forget things easily so I know I would get all confused if I tried to do more than one.

I have a couple going at a time:

The "main" book is the one I keep by my chair in the lounge.  I read this in the evenings or whenever I've got a spare minute or two.

Then there's a book I read before bed.  This is a different book unless I'm right at the end of the main book and want to finish it.

There is usually a Harlequin in the bathroom.  If it falls in the water while I'm reading (hasn't happened yet) then I don't get too upset.

I've had one book in my car (a biography) for over a year. I haul it into the dentist and/or doctor as needed.

And I'm always listening to a book on CD during my commute.

I usually read one book at a time...but if a book is heavy - you know what I mean, a book that you seem to have to read slowly to digest it or feel like re-reading paragraphs - then I pick up another book to 'spice' up the reading. I think I'll do that with poor Don Quijote which has been on my TBR pile for a year and I still haven't started it. :)

multiples are best! I usually have a funny romance, maye a more serious one, a mystery, and an erotica..just whatever appeals to me though I usually start one then put it aside for a while then come back to it.

When I think about it -- usually three -- one for around the house, one in the bathroom (also usually a Harlequin-lol), and one at bedtime - typically one I don't want to have to explain the cover or title to my 16 year old --- Then sometimes I'm running out of the house and will just grab one for the car, doctor's, waiting for said child wherever... Gotta love multi-tasking.

Just one at a time for me.  Getting completely immersed in the story is the best part of reading.

One at a time for me too! If I'm liking a book I want to stick with it and see how it ends. If I'm not liking a book I usually just end up skimming to the end so I can post it and move on to something better.

I am a multi-girl too... one on audiobook, for cleaning time, one e-book on the laptop (so little eyes can't read over my shoulder - why did I teach them to read???-or to google their eyes at the lovely covers) and another for bedtime reading.

I don't think I've ever listened to an audiobook before. I'll have to give it a try sometime. How do I go about listening to one on my iPod?

I multi-book....I have one on my e-reader that I don't even know the name of, one on my computer that I never seem to get around to reading, 2 erotic that I just read here and there, and I think I am reading 3 others.....1 is a book of short stories with one left in it, one is a historical that is boring, and another is a historical that is good, Brenda Joyce The Rival which I was going to trade but decided to read first.

I usually have several going at the same time. I'm reading three right now but I've had as many as five going at the same time.

I usually read one book at a time.  If I put down a book to start another, this would usually mean the book sucked.

I normally listen to a book on CD in my car and lately I have been listening to a book on my iPod at work.

As for print books, I usually only read one at a time, but I've been in a reading slump lately and I keep starting books, but not finishing them.  I think I have 4 or 5 books started right now.  I'm working on finishing them all up and then I'm going to go back to one book at a time.

I'm lucky if I can find one I like let alone 2!!!!!  Usually I'm reading one in the house and re-reading a keeper in the car.

Always two if you count the audio book in the car for my commute and sometimes 3 if I crack open the ereader for a good erotica romp as a break.

Susanna downloads books to her mp3 all of the time and I'm sure that would be similar to downloading to an Ipod. Maybe she can give you some insight , Sarah.  Audiobooks are wonderful!!! I never listen to the radio in my car anymore.
