How can I remove an item in "Wish List Hold" that is no longer available?

I'm new today and listed 13 books and they must have been popular because I have 4 already packed to go out! Two more books are on "wish list hold" and awaiting some 48 hour timer. Each has 5 more people wishing/requesting. But one of the books got damaged in a scuffle tonight and I want to remove it from my bookshelf. Unfortunately, it's hung up in the "wish list hold" and I can't figure out how to get it removed/deleted except to upset 5 more people over the next 5 X 48 hours (10 days!).

As far as I know you can't remove the wishlist hold.  Hopefully, the first person wishing will request it and then you can cancel the request and say that it became damaged after you posted it.  As long as you cancel and not the requester, it won't go to the other 5 people waiting in line.

Yes, you will have to wait until the member either accepts or declines the offer.   Sorry!

When the damaged book gets accepted (either by the person who currently has 48 hours or if they don't accept it, a subsequent wisher), then you can cancel. When you cancel, the wisher will remain in his/her FIFO position to get the next copy that is posted. You will only disappoint one person -- the member who accepts before you cancel, who will only be disappointed until the next copy is posted.

Thank you! I was worried I'd have to wait 10 days and disappoint 5 people.

Nope, once the person accepts just click the "I cannot mail this book" button and put in an explanation.

Of course you know, we're now terribly curious about the "damaged in a scuffle" part. I hope no one but the book was injured! (Sorry, the thought of a cat fight and scuffling over a book made me chuckle....much more cultured than scuffling over a mere man. :-D)

If the WL hold comes close to timing out-you can also put your account on hold to prevent it from going to the next person. Then delete the book before taking your account off hold.

If the book is unpostable but still readable, you can also offer it in the Book Baazar as a "freebie" if someone orders another book.

You could always offer it to the person who accepts it as a freebie with another order from your bookshelf. Send them a PM  when you cancel the order for the WL book when it's accepted and then have them order another book from your shelf. I think this would work. I think they would show up that you could pM them when they accept.

Welcome ! We love new members, especially when they come loaded with Wish List books :)

You can offer a damaged Wish List book and ask for a credit on it in the Book Bazaar. You just have to make sure to explain what makes it unpostable. Of course you can offer it as a freebie with an order from your shelf, but sometimes newer members need all the credits they can get so there is an option to still get a credit for the book if you'd like.

There is always the option of contacting TPTB and they will remove the book so that you do not have to wait out the 48 hour hold and hope the person accepts or have to put your account on hold....
