The question about steamy books just got me thinking, I've never read a Nora Roberts book. I have some of hers on my RL. I like steamy books ,and have been wondering this for awhile. I know shes very popular.

depends but I'd say not too much compared to some others but I was shocked at her JD Robb series - THAT was a lot more explicit and much hotter IMO!

I agree with Susanna. I have read a few Nora Roberts and they were subtle to warm imo. I wasn't thrilled in general. However, as J.D. Robb she is GREAT and very steamy!

Some have no sex and some have a few sex scenes.  I would not put her anywhere near the erotica catagory even as JD Robb.  I've listened to a lot of her books on audio and don't recall too many super graphic sex scenes. But I read a lot of erotica.  So to me she's not super steamy.

I have to agree with Mary. I have all but one of her J.D. Robb ". . .In Death" series and the books and stories themselves are great, but there is very little in the way of sex scenes. I think the steaminess in the scenes comes from how the main characters are described in appearance and the imagery that is painted in your mind by how they are with each other, not the actual description of the sex. That is very limited.

I only started reading Nora several months ago and I love her. All of the ones ive read have had sex in them, and from what ive read some were steamier than others. I really  liked the Night Tales series... they were pretty sexy. I read a lot of erotica too so shes tame compared to that but still enjoyable. I'll have to give that JD Robb series a try....

Thank you. I'll look into the JD Robb series too.

I don't see the Robb books as being steamier than her others. She does use cruder language in those, but not generally in the sex scenes.  She tends to be more evocative than descriptive, as Shrondra said.  Nice enough, but not your go-to gal if you want steam.

I'm not a Nora Roberts fan at all.  I like a lot of steam, and her books are just too bland for me, but that's what makes the world go round.

If you read a lot of erotica, her sex scenes will be bland to you.  If you read mostly chaste romances than she might seem steamy.

I was reading some review of  a Lynn Kurland book on goodreads recently.  Most reviews commented that there's was no real sex scenes in teh book and no steam at all. Then there were a few who complained that the book had too much sex because there's usually none in her book.  They were upset about it. So it just goes to show how 2 people can read a book and come away with very different perceptions.

If you're wanting steamy she's not your go-to author. I read her romances for the stories - usually 3-4 sisters or closely connected females and the traits are very similar. I've read some of the romantic suspense and seems like there's sex but it's not what I rmemeber from her books. perhaps I think the Robb books are steamy because it took me by surprise with them so violent and all but from the romance of hers I"d read under 'Roberts' I thought the Robb books were a lot steamier though I don't read them for that - I like Eve and Roarke and Peabody!

I never noticed that Roberts' books aren't steamy - the characters and story have always pulled me in and there didn't seem to be anything 'missing'.

I've noticed this many times, Mary -- the people who write the tamest books get the most "too dirty" complaints!  My theory is that people like Kurland end up on "clean romance" lists and are then read by people who want SQUEAKY clean and are offended by the tiniest bit.

I agree that Roberts is a bit bland (except in her Robb persona.) I like her books because they're easy to digest. Like eating mashed potatoes. Normally I go for angst and drama but having something reliably, iuncomplicatedly entertaining can be pleasant.  She is also often funny and, especially considering how prolific she is, has a nice variety of characters and situations.

I also like Nora Roberts,..Im currently reading The Bride Quartet series, and really enjoying all of the books in this series.

There are some kind of steamy scenes, but she really is not explicit in my opinion.

I think Roberts is really good with chemistry, but I wouldn't call her books - even the strictly romance books, steamy.

I know.  I didn't read the book but apparently there's a little more than her usualy in this book and a couple of readers flipped out. I though it was funny in that most of the reviewers said there's was no sex at all and then there's a few that complained that the book had too much sex!  I guess some people don't even want a heavy kiss.

OK another example of opinions can vary greatly:

I was just looking at a Catherine Anderson book.  She's one of my faves and I know that while she does include some sex in her books-they are usually sweet, not over long and usualy vanilla.  There's no bondage, rough sex, threesomes or anything.  But the book I just looked up has been shelved as Smut and Trashy.  I've read quite a few of her books and they didn't even come close to that.

What book is that Mary? Some of her books are more explicit than other in my experience but I have never read one that I would describe as smut of trashy.

I want to say it was Summer Breeze. I have read several of her books and she does put sex in them.   But they're pretty mild sex scenes.  Well they are to me becuase I read a lot of erotica.  They are just no where near what I would consider "smut" or "trashy".

Yes ,I'm wondering what it is that anyone could call " Smut OR Trashy...Catherine Anderson is one of my favorite also.

someone on a christian romance forum trashed Debbie Macomber as being 'porn'. I consider her pretty danged tame - I think morning comes softly or something like that was one of her more explicit books and that was still nothing.

I just don't read nora roberts' stuff for the sex - it's there and it's ok - I'm not snickering or anything like I did with some of Julie Garwood's historicals(still liked them but not the sex scenes!) but I could skip them and it wouldnt' affect the story IMO. I read hers for the story and the interaction between the characters..she usually has sisters or close friends..and I like that part of the story as well as the romance. except Parker in this latest 4 books - blech I couldn't stand her in book 2 and could barely stand her in her own book!

I always see Debbie Macomber being recommended to people who want clean romances.  I read a couple and there wasn't even a kiss in them that I remember.
