I have a few books posted to trade, and was just curious how many of these books are out there waiting to be ordered.  Is there a way to see if there are say 5 billion of each that I have posted, or just one or 2?  I was thinking of bringing some to a local used book store to swap out and thought if there were a ton of them listed here that might help me narrow my decision.

It's best to do this before you ever post a book, but if you do a search on the ISBN of the book you have and then click to add the book to your Reminder List, you can then go to the reminder list and it shows you how many copies of that book are currently in the system. At least then you would know if there were 200 or 300 copies that your book would likely be sitting on your shelf awhile. I don't know about 5 billion...maybe there are that many of John Grisham's The Pelican Brief by now. LOL

You can do that now, too, but if there were, say, 35 of a book, you can't tell exactly where in that line your own book is.

Unfortunately the only way to tell is by looking the book up and putting on your reminder list.  I think they are working on a way to show how many are listed when you look up a specific book. Thats how it is on Swapadvd. But they haven't implemented it here yet.

You can't telll where you are on the fifo line but you can at least see if there 100 other copies posted. Those books do get ordered but it can takea while sometimes.

I don't know if this is the best way to do it but here is my method.  I search for the book or go to my bookshelf and put that book on my reminder list.  Then I go to the reminder list and there it will say how many copies are in the system.  Anymore, I type in the ISBN into the search area at the top right of the page and when the book comes up I put it on my reminder list to see how many copies are in the system.  That way you can see if you even want to list the book or go straight to the bookstore pile.

There is probably an easier way to do it but that is what has been working for me.

Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone! So far most of my listed books have just a few in the system, less than 20 each.

You can also write a note on the book that only you can see.

I do that right after I add it to my shelf and I write the current number in system on the note.

It helps a little to see how a particular book is moving

It would be cool if they could put the little ! with what place in the FIFO line you are like on the WL. But I imagine books being ordered, shelves going on and off hold and such it would be too hard.

Even some books that have a couple hundred copies in the system really move, though. I have "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the NIght Time" on my Reminder List, and the number in the system changes every day - sometimes up, sometimes down.

I don't let high numbers of copies discourage me. I've got time, baby...
