I don't know whether this is a new thing or not, but I just started getting them yesterday. I don't want these emails, but I don't see a place in my Settings on where to turn them off. (I still have the same 7 check box thingies and there isn't one for "Book Mailed to you.") Anyone? Please let me know, thanks! The email title comes in as: "Book Mailed: XYZ Book."

Dear Heather,

How odd that you only just started getting those, I have always gotten them.  I don't know of a way to turn it off though.

At the top of the settings page there should be a link that says email.  When you click on that, there will be a list of all the reasons PBS will send you an email.  Just check the boxes next to all the emails you don't want to get.

Sorry, I didn't read you post very well the first time.  I think Lisa is right that there is no way to turn it off.

Just go to My Account/Settings & scroll down to the heading for emails. Check all those you don't want an email for. Click on update button and you'll be all set.

Whoops - I just double checked and there is not a box to check for message "book has been mailed". This must be something new - hopefully someone else will have some info.

Thanks Linda, I'm sorry you missed the part in my original post where I said I've done that, and there's no check box for it. Please check yours, and if you indeed have a check box for it, I'd be surprised (as I don't, and neither do the other people who've posted here.) Is there really no way to turn it off? I wonder why, if you can turn off other settings. And weird that I just started getting them!

ETA: Our posts bumped at the same time, your second one and mine. So, yes, we're all in the mystery I guess!

I would find those emails annoying, too. The only ones I want are if someone sends me a PM.  Just lately, my PMs have been containing part of the message itself. Some changes must be going on.

Yes, that was a WONDERFUL new change that I absolutely LOOOOOOVE and am so glad for. Well, if anyone else knows how to turn these off, please pipe up! Thanks!

I'd say, wait a few days -- they may be working on this.  And if you are still getting them (and there's still no check box) in a few days, let the PBS team know.

Ugh, I hope this isn't a new feature.  I have all PBS emails turned off except for the newsletter and book requests.  I'm on here enough anyway, I don't want to have to keep clearing PBS emails out of my inbox.

OK, well I'm satisfied to know:

  • It's not just me
  • It isn't something I should easily be able to figure out how to fix
  • It just started happening

hee hee. I do loooooooooove the "message in the PM" feature and HOPE that stays. Hopefully they will just configure another checkbox where you can turn on/off the "Book Mailed" email just like all the others. It seems to jive in along with all the other messages (I have just about all of them turned off too).

The thing I'd really like to see change is the "Watched Topic Has a Reply" emails.  I don't understand why it isn't done here the same way it's done on other forum sites (including my own), in that, if you are watching a topic, you are notified about the first reply only.  There could be ten new replies since the last time you read that topic, but you only get one email.  Once you read it and get caught up to date you'll get an email for the next reply, but again, only one.

There's a lot of topics on here I'd like to watch, but they are also very active.  I really don't need, as I had happen just yesterday, 40 emails telling me that there are new replies to three watched topics.

(Edited to fix typos)

Huh. I've been getting these emails for a very long time, if not since joining the site.

the "book mailed" e-mails are new to me, too.  i have all e-mails from the site turned off, because, as someone else already said, i'm on here enough that i usually check here BEFORE i check my e-mail, so it doesn't matter to me!

the only e-mails that don't annoy me are the "a buddy has given you a credit", since i'm so active in the games forum.

Well, I just got another. Hopefully if people keep speaking out, they'll do something with them where we can choose to un-select them. It seems like it's only a very *select* few who have been getting the whole time. Mine started at the most, three days ago, and I've been here over half a year.

Mine just started this morning and I've been a member for a few years - I would prefer not to receive them, also, and wait for an option to not receive them.

I just started getting them too, and did the same as you, went to try to turn them off and couldn't. I have most PBS e-mails turned off except the Newsletter, daily wish list/digest and when someone requests a book. I don't need to know when someone has mailed a book, I'm here often enough to know that, so would really like to be able to dtich those.

That's so weird - I've been getting these e-mails notifying me that the book has been mailed ever since I was a member here. I have never changed my e-mail settings before. They are just set to the default settings.

Yep... just started getting these today after being a member for several months. I do not find this email as an option in PBS settings, but if you have an email client that has the ability to filter on rules, make a rule for when received and filter on Book Mailed: in the subject time and send it to the deleted items folder or permanently delete. I have a rule set up for Instant Credit and never see those.

I sent in feedback to the PBS team :-)

I had sent in feedback as well....here is the response they gave me:

"These are not actually new - they have always gone out when a book you have requested is marked mailed.  Maybe yahoo has been blocking yours before now.

We will put the "opt-out" option on our To Do list of site changes to make
."

I find it odd that I'm getting these emails all of a sudden, but they've never gone to either my inbox or my spam folder.  Oh well, it's not a big deal, I can deal with it until the option to not get these emails is added.

Sorry but, I can say without any doubt that these have not been going to my email address for as long as I've had an account here.  The reason I can say that is simple.  I have my own mail server and I have logs of what comes in and goes out, and what gets filtered.  Until this past week no mail like this has ever been received by my mail server.
