I just got a book I didn't order from someone. I typed in the sender's name, city, and state in the Member Directory- nothing, removed city and just did state and name. Nothing. The package itself has no indication it's from PBS, no nickname or anything included. I have no way of contacting this person and letting them know they sent me a book. Weird, right?

Where did the book come from?  Are you expecting a book from the same state?

If you are expecting a book, or recently received a book from teh same city than you can probably match it up that way. There should be a PM button near the transaction. If you match the person up to a book you are waiting for-do NOT mark the book received RWP.  PM them and work it out that way.

I'm not, though. That was the first thing I checked- I'm expecting a book from TN, but not where this guy is from.

Did you check your Transaction Archive?  Maybe the book was originally ordered from someone that neglected to mark it mailed and so ordered from the next person in the FIFO line...

Struck out there too. None in the Lost in Mail or Cancelled by Sender category. I looked at the to me map and I didn't see his first name either.

ETA- the nearest I can figure, I ordered a book from this state in February from someone with a different name.

Since "the package itself has no indication it's from PBS"; what makes you look here for the answer? It could be a gift or prize from somewhere else.

If you do think it's from PBS, then you should send all the info you have in a feedback message. Include the title of the book, the ISBN, and the complete return address, especially if it has a request id # in it. They can tell you if the sender is a member and if that particular book has been swapped here lately.

Have you entered any drawings, like freebook friday, or goodreads?

There isn't anywhere else that would send me a book. I don't enter contests, I'm not part of another swapping site, I don't even give out my address online except to amazon and bn, but I haven't ordered anything from an Amazon seller (as opposed to Amazon itself) in years. I haven't ordered a book in the last 3 months from anywhere but here.

There is literally no other reason I should be getting a book in the mail (especially this book- it's by an author I don't like).

ETA- I sent feedback, thanks for that idea!

Are you sure it was addressed to you.  I remember recently someone posting that they got a book they didn't ordered and couldn't match it up to any recent or pending transactions. After some investigation she realized it wasn't even addressed to her but another PBSer who lived near her.

Yep, it's addressed to me. And my bank account backs up that I haven't bought anything recently.

It's NOT a member here, so the only thing I can think of is that my mom ordered it, paid for it with her card and accidentally had it sent to me instead of her. Unlikely, but it's all I've got right now.

I sent The Day Before Midnight by Stephen Hunter to someone and have no record of the transaction.  The bk was still listed on  my shelf and someone ordered it but I could not find it and had to tell them that I did not really know what had happened to the bk but I did not have it.  I vaguely remember wrapping that bk and sending it off.  Maybe it was a 2/1 with another bk ordered.  I have to be extra careful to take those off my shelf. If you got The Day before Midnight from me let me know and I can let that quandry go.......................

Still no idea. It's like the book gods just decided I should have this book. :-) It wasn't my mom. Someone could have stolen my identity, I suppose, but they didn't use any of MY accounts to do it. As in- they may have opened an account in my name but didn't use an established account.

I'm considering sending the sender a card and ask what's up with it.

Haha, it was not the Day before Midnight Margaret, sorry :-(

Update!

My friend, who lives in Washington State, bought it for me and had them sent directly to me instead of to her. She just forgot to tell me about it until this morning.

I wasn't expecting anything from her (or anyone!) so I'm relieved that nothing crazy was going on.

Nice to find you have special friends, isn't it? Have a good read, it will be all the nicer for knowing it was bought just for you out of her care for you.
