There is a book I'd like to get when it becomes available in paperback..  I found the isbn on another site.  When I do a search here, it doesnt come up.  How do I add it to my wishlist.

Thanks for your help.

Give it a few minutes and try again.

what is the ISBN?

sometimes when you do a search and use all books, it doesn't show up right away but will when the database updates.

So if you search by exact title and author you get other versions.  But not the paperback version you are looking for?  Is this the case?

You can try adding it to your TBR, sometimes that updates faster.  After you get it recognized that way you should be able to WL it.  Sometimes though it takes a while.

The best check is if it shows up on an Amazon search.  If it's not there, it's not here, at least from what I can tell.

What I usually do is go to Search, then Advanced Search. Under Additional Search terms, plug in the ISBN in the appropriate box. Hit the Perform Search button. If and when the book appears, you will see some choices on your right. If the book is currently wishlisted and there are no copies available, click on +Wish. However, if copies are available, just click on Order This Book.

Once in a while I'll get an ISBN of a book coming out that when I place it in my TBR - it will be recognized as a legal ISBN or valid ISBN but isn't in the database.  Usually, it won't be in Amazon's either.  You just have to watch and wait until it does become listed in the database.  Frustrating at time.

One of my Hardcover WL books was doing the same thing just a few minutes ago.  The search would only show Hardcovers.  I went to advanced search and plugged in the ISBN and the Trade paperback did show up that way.  It's this book A Darker Domain :: Val McDermid

Yep, it still shows only hardcovers in the search by title/author http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/browser.php?all_k=&not_k=&or_k[]=&or_k[]=&phrase_k1=&all_ti=&not_ti=&or_ti[]=&or_ti[]=&phrase_ti1=A+Darker+Domain&a=Val+McDermid&i=&bd=&p=&g=0&b[]=Paperback&b[]=Audio+Cassette&b[]=Hardcover&b[]=Audio+CD&pd=&pd_type=e&r=n&s_type=b&l=10&sby=&oby=ASC&saved_name=

Why doesn't it show this paperback???  A Darker Domain :: Val McDermid  If you advanced search by ISBN 1554680808 it finds it.

I captured an image of the search showing only 3 Hardcovers just in case the search does something different at a later point in time:  http://i701.photobucket.com/albums/ww19/pvc_photos/Capture-9.jpg

Is it because the paperback edition is from Canada?

Tried to post to TBR and got this message....           Sorry, this book has a valid ISBN number, but is not in our database.

Yes, I said that above.  It happens when the database hasn't listed the ISBN yet.  PBS is largely dependent on Amazon's database.  Since it is a new book - it may be a while.  I have several notes on HC's with future PB's coming to look when they are closer to coming out.

My search problem was a different problem than the OPs problem and today my paperback does appear in the search, see Link

Yesterday it would not appear in the search--->>I captured an image of the search showing only 3 Hardcovers just in case the search does something different at a later point in time<<  Link

So I'm guessing my specific search problem was the type where you should just wait for the automatic database update and try again later.

There should be enough book info under that ISBN at Amazon Canada to post the book as though you owned it, and IMMEDIATELY remove it from your shelf; some folks put their shelves on "hold" first, just in case your internet connection fails right after you post it or something. It will now be in the system to add to your wishlist under that ISBN. You'll likely need to convert the book dimensions from metric to U. S. numbers though.

I have done this successfully with non-American books.

I've found that I can get Australian ISBN's and UK ISBN's as early as US ISBN's.  The problem is that I don't want those on my WL because they rarely get put into our system.  I don't have any experience with the Canadian books.  The one author I have found early Aussie ISBN's is Jennifer Fallon.  Her AUS ISBN's are and have been good now - but won't be in USA editions until 2010.  Michelle Sagara West is another that has a series I'd love to get but is only available in AUS ISBN and costs $147. for the pb versions.  I don't want them that badly.

John, if I may suggest, be sure to put your shelf on hold before you do that incase someone else is having the same bright idea at the same time and you get stuck with a WL order for a book you don't have and get a small ding for cancelling a WL book.
