A classic about natural childbirth by Robert A Bradley MD.

revised edition 1974, hardcover with book jacket

Dr. Robert A. Bradley has presided at more than 13,000 unmedicated births, with the fathers cooperating and helping build the mothers morale during the whole period of pregnancy and being present at the actual birth. For years now Dr. Bradley has helped make the birth of a child a joyous experience for mothers who follow natural childbirth principles. Generally the mother prefers to walk bake with the father from the delivery room holding the baby, and in many cases mother and baby go home with father two hours after the birth is finished.

The book is based on the joy of having a baby, rather than being delivered of one. Both husbands and wives have reaped a rich reward from the birth experience. The author tells the husband how to help his wife from earlist pregnancy through birth and after, including the nursing period. He gives practical pointers on what happens durring the various months of pregnancy and during first and second stage labor and actual birth, the psychological rules for living with a pregnant wife, how the husband can help with exercises, diet, etc., and give his wife love, understanding, and encouragement as well as actual physical and psychological support.

There is a New chapter, "It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature", much material on the ill effects of drugs used during pregnancy, on diet and on breast-feeding.

The husband's presence at the birth of a child has been the subject among doctors and hospital authorities. Dr Bradley makes a good crusader's case. He feels that his long experience has proved that it makes for healthier, happier babies and mothers and for a more satisfying famly life.

While this is slightly dated in language, it is still a good resource for childbirth with daddy to coach mom through labor.
