I received a book today to review and I like to add them all to my TBR pile so I can post them right afterwards.

well the book I have, the ISBN is valid but won't pull anything up.  Then I tried the advanced search to make it find it but no luck there.   So I decided to check on Amazon and it has a totally different ISBN.

Ok, so I know that something could have happened and there are 2 different ISBN's....however this is a small independent publishing company and I just don't see how that could have happened...or if my ISBN is a valid one and printed on the back and inside the book, why it won't come up.

I know I'll need to post it as if it doesn't have an ISBN and make a reference to it on the other ISBN in the system, but it doesn't make sense why they put a valid number on the back but it doesn't pull up anywhere!

just a small back from vacation vent!

this happens sometimes, the other day I found that two of the books that I wanted to post had valid ISBNs but, they couldn't find any data....what I did is go under the post, entered the ISBN and then it had me enter all the data with that ISBN (not a PBS assigned number)...

If you were sent this book to review are you sure it is not an ARC?

I'm confused Christy.  What do you mean by "go under the post?"

It is not an ARC, I sometimes get regular copies and not ARC's to review.  Plus the ARC's usually come up as a hardback so that is a big clue!

Also, where under post are you able to set up a description with the ISBN?  I just looked and couldn't find it

1.   Put your account on Vacation Hold

2.   Under "My Account" click on Post Books

3.   Enter the ISBN...it will bring up a page with that ISBN for you to enter all the information.

4.   Post the book

5.   Click on that book and add it to your TBR list

6.   Delete that book from your Bookshelf

7.   Remove your account from Vacation Hold

For purposes of personal validation in a situation like this you might try ISBNdb.com .  It's an ISBN database that links to a bunch of the other book sites.  It's pretty comprehensive.

I have a different question. How do you sign up to get books to review? Just wondering.

You can go to Rebeccareads.com and there is a link on the side.  I think they are still looking for reviewers.  These are not always ARC, sometimes they are the regular version.

You can also get ARC's by signing up at Harper Collin's website under the First Look program.  This is hit and miss for me, I think I've gotten 3 books from them to review in nearly 2 years.

No, they're no longer taking applications. I missed out. For now anyway. I will check on the Harper Collins site though. Thanks for the info.

sorry about that Tim, I didn't know they had stopped taking applications.

Christy, thank you so much for your detailed explanation on how to set up an ISBN in PBS....I just did it for the book in question and it worked!  yippee
