I had listed a paperback book using its ISBN.  I didn't realize that PBS lists this book as a hardcover.  I have had it on my bookshelf for months.  Someone else recently requested it... they have understandably marked it as "RWAP" however, how can I resolve it when I used the ISBN of the paperback but PBS lists it as hardcover?

You return the credit to the person you sent the book too.  It is the sender's responsibility to make sure the key points match...

You need to check when you list it.  The binding is one of the points PBS asks you to be sure about.  If it is different, you need to list it without the ISBN number.  It will get one of those 5 or 6 digit numbers that only apply to books here.

Some publishers use the same number.  Some paperback book clubs also do.

Are they asking for their credit back?  If not, then they might be fine with the wrong one.  PBS does ask us to mark it that way when we receive it.  Think of it as a really big scolding, suck it up, and apologize.  Check your books when posting.

I had one the other day that I'd done the same thing, but luckily caught it before mailing. I also have a WL book that PBS lists as a hardcover, but my pb is the same isbn. It's a bummer, but you have to list without an isbn and hope your book does get ordered.

Yes, the receiver verified that the ISBN is the same for HC as well as PB.  I guess this escaped me when I posted.  I do not think there was an option of "post another version" otherwise I would have clicked on that.  Grumble.  I am down to this 1 credit.

Well, even if it does or doesn't list "post another version" you still are responsible to check and make sure all points match.

This would not have helped you. The post another version is posting books with other ISBNs, which you can't do either. Unfortunately your only option with this book was to have noticed that one of the required matching points did not match and post it using the post a book with no ISBN option.

It sucks to lose a credit for something like this, but it is a good reminder to always check postability and look at the 4 points that must match (ISBN, Title, Author, and Binding Type) when you post a book AND when you get a request for it, just be make sure that something didn't get by you that could cost you a credit.

Thanks, all!  I did refund the credit... which pained me b/c the receiver could get their credit back by posting the book.  Oh, well.

Yes but they'd have to spend postage money to get the credit back. So it doesnt' put them in any better of a position.   And if it's a heavily posted book it could be months or years before it's requested again-you said it was months before it was requested from  you.  Not to mention that they have to take the time to post it without an ISBN.

Marcia, I sent you a credit to help ease the pain.  I don't think it has to hurt as much as your only credit to learn your lesson:P  I've been there myself, but I caught mine when I pulled the label up to print it & the weight looked way off.  I had to PM the receiver at that point, and she really wanted an HC, so I cancelled.  I feel your pain though.  I got a wrong edition from a member who refused to refund my credit, and I still have this stupid book she sent me...
