For whatever reason, the Book Browser ISBN search is not working right now. I keep getting "Timed outs." However, the title search response works quickly.

UPDATE 30 March - I received a response from the PBS Team:

"Thanks for writing in. Yes, we are currently working to facilitate the ISBN search -- it is a matter of purging a selection of old data (trimming our records) so that the servers don't have to handle so much data when the database is searched. The logs for data tied to the ISBN have grown so big that they are stalling out the search.

We hope to have this fixed soon -- in the meantime, searches that are not tied to the ISBN (and therefore don't have a gigantic amount of data attached to them) are working -- so search by title, author, genre and so forth should function normally.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we're working hard to get it sorted out! Thanks for your patience."

UPDATE 6 April: I just did a seach using the ISBN space in Book Browser and it worked.

I ran into the same thing.  I was at the fol and was on the computer to find some wl books.  Real pita when the isbn search doesn't work.  I also had to type all the titles with authors -- took twice as long.

I thought it was just me doing something wrong. Took me several times to realize something was wrong with it.

Yup, I had the same problem.

Went to the fol again today and the same thing happened.  I had to type in the title...  

The site was having some problems the last few days, but it seems like it is back to 'normal' now. I was hoping the Book Browser "ISBN seach" was part of this, but I just tested it again and it still doesn't work. Time to report it to the PBS staff, which I'll do just as soon as I submit this reply.

Thank you for the update, Thomas.  I've been worried it's on my end and I have no idea how to fix it.

Search by title and author often get me nowhere excepting with the most popular authors and books.

I hope they aren't purging all older books as some of us do look for books from the nether reaches of the 20th century.
