I tried to post a book, but the ISBN number shows Paperback. The book is a Hardcover.

The are a few other ISBNs for the Hardcover edition, but they are those "dummy" numbers. All of them have wishlists.

Is there any way to correct the format associated with the ISBN?

Thank you.

No. PBS will not change the binding type unless you can prove that it was never released in that binding. Some publishers re-use the numbers for both PB and HC. Those books will have many short "dummy" ISBNs.

I recommend adding a tag with your short ISBN to the wish listed version. Folks will find it.

(The theory being that books with the listed binding have already been posted.)

As Emily said, PBS will only change their database information if the info is incorrect.  If the book was printed in both paper and hardcover with the same ISBN, the information in the PBS system remains as is and the other format must be listed under a short.

Do some online research and see what you find, I've had them go both ways.  PBS changed the data on one book I wanted to post, due to this type of error.  Several others were dual bindings and I had to post under a short ISBN.

I've noticed that bookclubs will often use the paperback ISBN on their hardcovers.

Thank you all for your responses.

Amazon, ISBNdb.com, and other such sites show this ISBN as hardcover; this is the only place I found showing paperback. So . . . I cannot post it under its true ISBN, because the format will not match. This book is heavily waitlisted under dummy ISBNs, but I cannot post there becase the ISBN will not match. I thought about posting a message on the paranormal board, but there still would be no way to complete a swap. I think this one is destined for the thrift store!

If you post it like it doesn't have an ISBN and then put the message on the board, people will be able to order it directly from your shelf. You will be creating another dummy, but in this case it seems that is the only way people can post the HC on PBS within the rules. At least give it a try.

This may well have happened when the first member to post this book had the Paperback Book Club version.  That book club uses the HC ISBN for all their paperbacks.

The short ISBNs are not meant to match.  But PBS has asked us to start a new one for each copy of a book rather than re-use them.

Thank you to everyone for the informative answers.

I was disappointed that the book could not be offered to the members patiently waiting on the dummy waiting lists, but sometimes things have an odd way of working out. A few days ago I was talking about books with a coworker, and she was raving about this wonderful book by J. R. Ward she had just finished reading. She could not wait to read the rest of the series. Needless to say, I passed the series on to her, solving my posting dilemna! I won't earn any pbs credits, but the important thing is that my books are going to someone who will really enjoy them.
