Well we should start thinking about our reading challenge for next year.
First anyone want to take it over this year. I have done it for a couple so you won't hurt my feelings. If no one wants it I can do another one.
Let's start putting down some ideas for categories for ever puts it together.
I love this challenge and enjoy being a follower instead of a leader.
I still struggle with the zombie category but like that I need to stretch my boundaries to find some that apply.
I also love this challenge it gives me something to read too! I'm trying to think of ones we haven't don't but I can't remember what we did in the past. So here is what I've been able to come up with.
We could do books with monster names in the titles which would include (Werewolf, Demon, Zombie, Witch, Wizard, Vampire, Ghost.....ect like The Accidental Werewolf , Ghouls Gone Wild, The Outlaw Demon Wails, The Vampire and the Virgin, Flip this Zombie.... I think you can see where I'm going with this! We could call it Who's Your Monster!
We Could have a Past and Future section where you would have Historical para's, and Futuristic para's like for past The Mystery Woman, The Seduction of Phaeton Black, Soulless, and future Long Live the Queen, The Greyfriar, After Dark You could throw steampunk in with the historical as long as it has some para aspects.
There could be a section for books with beasts or animals on the cover like Darkness Devours, The Living End: A Zombie Novel, Never Cry Werewolf, Werewolf Smackdown I think you can now see where I was going with this!
We could stick Fantasy with Mystery this year that way if people don't read Fantasy they can read a Para Mystery! Though I think I would say that the Fantasy can't be an urban fantasy. Fantasy books like (Harbinger w/ wizards, witches, elfs, oracs. ect)
We could have a Private vs Police where you could read books where the main character is a Private investigators / liaisons to / or Special consultant to police; or books where the main character is a Cop / Detective / FBI or investigator for other agency. I think this one speaks for its self but just incase books like Jim Butchers Harry Dresden, Daranda Jones Charlie series, and The Gravewitch series vs books like C. E. Murphy Walker Papers! I'd include books like this with made up agencies Blood Law.
We could have a I need a Vacation section books where the character is from the US but out of the country for some reason like Ghouls Gone Wild and all future installments of the Ghost Hunter series, Vision Impossible, Kitty Steals the Show, A Drop of Red, Magic Rises.
We could do a section with Vampire/Werewolf Hunters as main characters / Assassins as the main character. Like vampire hunter: Something Secret This Way Comes, Anita Blake when she's actually on a hunt (LOL), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Angels' Blood, The Rest Falls Away; or Assassins Spider's Bite, The Fallen Blade.
Thats all I've got right now!

Keep the ideas coming folks here are some I had and few I will will bring back. Any ideas around bonus categories
-New releases (bring back)
-Your Number one (bring back) 1st in a series
-New to you author(new)
-Mixed back of paranoral (books that have 2 or more types of paranormal characters, witches, vampires, mermaids, werewovles etc)
-Bad Boys - Male authors or male main character (new)
-Two word Titles (last year we did one word titles)
-Witchcraft and magic (new witchs and magic are featured)
-10 books that are set in different states or countries
5 books with 50 or more WL
Just some random thoughts
What about The Final Countdown, or something similiar? Read the final book (or books) in a series that's been completed by the author. Finishing a series always feels like a great accomplishment.
I'll post in the main thread about this thread; I didn't realize you had already started it!
I've stopped participating in swaps so I'll have a bit of free time and don't mind taking over if you want a year off.
Love lots of the suggestions so far, especially monster titles and CSI/PI characters.
Not sure how easy or appealing it would be, but an Interspecies Love one might be interesting where the love interests are different (human & vamp, shifter & vamp, etc).
Also, would anyone be interested in adding a Non-Fiction/paranormal section for books on hauntings and whatnot?

Melissa I will take over for next year. It is fun coming up with the categories. I dont' read much nonfiction but everything else sounds good.
Another category I was thinking about is oldies but good books that are more than a few years old and we never get to and are not hot swap items.
Thank you Melissa
How about collections? Anthologies or collected novellas. As probably the lone voice in the wilderness, I should say I love Zombies and would be very happy to see the category again.
I'm definitely on the Zombie bandwagon with Lisa. Think it worked well when you added dystopian/post apocalyptic as people who didn't necessarily like zombies could finish the category out with dystopians instead.
I'm not a non-fiction reader either. My favorite categories are things like new to me authors. The oldies category is a GREAT idea. I keep trying to read Sherilyn Kenyon and I am almost done with Karen Marie Moning but I keep putting other books in front of them. Even Kresley Cole has been ignored. Guess I need to take a break from swaps too.
I'm not a non-fiction reader so if we could put it with something else that would be great too. I try to stay away from spooky true stuff, I don't read true crime and I don't like true ghost stories. Though for the ghost stories I probably could if I didn't read them at night or I wasn't alone until 2 am most nights. I read a true crime once and it freaked me out so much I didn't sleep until way after david got home which is after 2 am. And I kept him up talking most of that night. I'm not sure the ghost stories would do the same but I know I can't watch really freaky movies before I sleep. I watched Jeepers Creepers 2 right when it came out and had the worst dreams so I just don't do it anymore! If I watch it during the day though and my brain has time to think of other things though I'm fine. So I would probably be ok with ghost stories during the day too. However I'm never reading another true crime again since I still get wary when I'm alone and people walk down the street at night!
You could slot zombies in several of the ones I made up too but I don't mind doing one like we did this year as long as its got two spots that we can choose from. I just have trouble getting into zombies, but there was that series where she was a lawyer I might try. What was that one?
I was also going to suggest Novella's or anthologies but it didn't make it into my list when I was brain storming. My mind kept running and I almost didn't get all those down before I thought of something new!
Dang I was also going to suggest and Oldies one....see I knew I should have taken more time. Glad you guys thought of these too. I was thinking of one where we did books that were written in or before 2000 because I also have tons of good older ones I'd like to read but never get a chance to do so because I try to keep up with the swaps I'm in and my library books that need to get back! I'd really like to do this one you could slot it with non-fiction or Stick Fantasy and non-fiction together and then stick mystery's with oldies!
I was also going to suggest one like this alice "5 books with 50 or more WL" sadly it didn't make it to the board either. I was thinking over 75 but 50 is great too. And I like the ones you suggested to bring back from this and previous years.
Melissa I like this one "Not sure how easy or appealing it would be, but an Interspecies Love one might be interesting where the love interests are different (human & vamp, shifter & vamp, etc)." I've got some romance and erotica's like this.
I wouldn't mind if we extend it to where we had 3-5 more categories. I would actually be done with this years if I wasn't determined to read the last 4 I put on there. LOL I'm positive I've read ones to slot in their I just really want to give myself motivations to read the last 4 I have left! Next year I'll just flow with it instead of trying to plan it out!
Oh and if anyone liked the one where we did 3 books with a color in the title I'm game for that as I now have many of them. It was so weird we did that one last year I hardly found 3 books and ended up reading a kindle one to fill a slot. This year I steadily got a bunch of them in.
I'm also ok with a Magic section and if you want to get rid of the fantasy one I suggested and make it just a magic section instead I'd be ok with that. I was just trying to suggest ones we'd never done. I'd be ok if we threw YA in again this year but I'd rather not do new to me authors maybe we could just make that section as first in series. I have some first in series by authors who are not new to me and I'm trying not to read some many new to me authors right now. It just leads to more new to me series.
We could also do Vampires vs Zombies if were going to do Zombies (Blood Drinkers vs Flesh Eaters)! It would be another way to change it up and keep both zombies and vampires but not have to have both as their own categories.
I'm ok with Bad Boys, Mixed Bag, and New Releases!

Oh and Melissa I really like the one you did with the trees and the hands. Thoug I'm not sure I'll add one as I usually don't it might unbalance my Salvatore brothers! Though I've been thinking of getting rid of Stefan and putting up some Dean from supernatural so I could put it where the vampire diaries blinkie is now ; )
Ok well I've got this one too
Read 3 Stand Alone Titles or a whole Trilogy!:
I'm not sure I have a trilogy or 3 stand alone's but I might be able to find some or one if people like this one!
Ok I really am done for the night be back tomorrow to check out the thoughts.
Do we want to keep it 15 categories and just expand the bonus section or bulk it up to 17-18 categories with just 2-3 bonus ones?
So far, I'm thinking:
1 - New Release
2 - Vampire/Zombie
3 - #1 in series
4 - New to You author
5 - Witchcraft/Magic
6- Interspecies Love
7 - Retro (book published before 1999 or takes place before then)
8 - Hungry Like the Wolf (Wolf/werewolf characters)
9 - YA or book that has a teen or child character
10 - 3's a charm: Trilogy books, book 3 in a series, books with 3 in title etc
11 - Not in Kansas anymore: Books that take place in real cities that are now different (ex: Chicagoland Vampire Series, Anita Blake St Louis, etc)
12 - You're the one that I Haunt: Ghosts/haunted buildings etc can use both fiction and non-fiction for this one
13 - Paranormal Law & Order: CSI, detectives, etc
14 - Bad Boys (male author or character)
15 - Monster Mash (any monster in title: vamp, zombie, shifter)
5 for 50: 5 books with 50+ WL
5: Feed the FIFO / WL Fairy
10 from TBR
These are just tenative. Let me know what you think and if you want more than 15 categories. Tried to come up with several scenarios for some of the categories that might be tough for some.

I think that the only one I will have problems with is # 8 after looking at my book shelfs I have one book that has Dying in the title but no Death or Dead. I may have some for the kindle I'll have too look though because I'm just not sure. Though I'm sure there are many of paras that have dead or death in the title so it shouldn't be hard to find.
What about a Feed FIFO bonus category? It might push me over the ledge to post books I tend to hang on to.
Just a thought while reading these great ideas. It's funny because this year I almost finished in about August but still have one book to read. I lost the rhythm while reading swap books. I like having the option of reading 1-3 books in each category so in my mind I didn't fail!!!
Jenny & others,
What do you think about doing a bonus 5 for Feed the FIFO/WL Fairy (books either posted to FIFO or directly to a friend's or other player's WL? I know it sometimes helps me choose what to read by stalking friend's WL to see what I can post to them.
Also, probably will expand it, but will make them super easy spots to fill.
