It's going to be really obvious who I'm talking about here, and there's no harm meant, I just can't make PBS work the way I want it to. There's a member who starts and posts incessant threads about captioning stuff in CMT. For whatever reason, I find them the most annoying thing on this site. I just realized I could click "Ignore this member." But, the topic threads still show up. :-( (They show up, but then inside them is blank and just says I'm ignoring her.) Since I never read them (it's the titles and their frequency that annoy me), I had hoped this would delete her and her threads entirely, but it doesn't. (So, ignoring a member does not ignore her topics and/or her name from showing up.) Is there a way to do this? Again, seriously no harm intended on this person. I just would love to not see those threads. Anyone? Thank you!!!

I just need to add I feel HORRENDOUSLY bad for posting this. Perhaps members hate minions, girls named Heather, my posts in the WL Thread BB. It has NOTHING TO DO with the poster. It's simply something that really gets under my skin and I'm trying to avoid it, find out how, if possible. I mean this entirely. Thank you.

I think this should be an option, but it is not right now. If you always use the same computer and browser to read the forums, perhaps a browser extension exists that would let you filter them out or at least change the color of the title to white.

I have a couple of people ignored myself. I guess I'm lucky. The title of the post doesn't bother me. It's the body of the message I don't want to see.

I don't usually use the "ignore" feature, though maybe I should. I know I'm going to see some very aggravating things that way, but I hate the idea that the aggravating things are said with no response because it makes it seems like some opinions speak for more people and I don't want to be a silent voice counted in that number. Also so that replies make sense in the forums.

I'm not into the captioning threads either but I just scroll right past them.  Some people must like them or else they'd get no response at all.

I think I'm down to 1 person on ignore, most of the others left when the membership fees came around.

I never look at "captioning" threads - it just doesn't interest me.  But then again, I don't much care for it on Facebook when people constantly post everything they eat - seriously, do people really think anyone cares what they ate for dinner?  Oh, well...

Add me to the list of folks who have zero interest in the captioning threads. But like Heather, I would love a way to remove them from the list of threads I see. There always seems to be a ton of them, and I get tired of slogging through them to find something that might interest me.

Well, I'm glad I looked here. Thanks for the input as I had no idea the captioning threads were so offensive to so many. Yes, there are those who like them, they've PMed me to say so. Thus far no one has actually asked me to stop the captoning threads and no one has sent me a PM saying they dislike them.

ETA If you all have me on the 'ignore' function then you probably won't see this. Just a thought which just occurred to me.

I had no idea the captioning threads were so offensive to so many.

Four people in this thread said that they had no interest in them. Of those four, 2 of us said we'd like a way to remove them or more easily scroll past them. Not one person said they were offensive, and I don't think that 2 to 4 people qualifies as so many. In all cases, it doesn't appear to be personal. I know in my case it's certainly not.

No one sent you a PM asking you to stop because it's not our place to do so. You have as much right to post them as we have to scroll past them or be annoyed by them. The OP was looking for a way to not see them without disrupting them for those who do like and enjoy them.

Personally, I wonder if there's a way that there can be one continuous captioning thread, or even a monthly captioning thread (kind of like the monthly WL multiples thread). This way there aren't multiple captioning threads in CMT, and they're all in one place for those that like them.

ETA: There are 8 captioning threads on page 1 of CMT, or 16% of threads on that page. IMHO that's a bit excessive, but again, it's only my personal opinion, and I certainly am not telling others they shouldn't be doing that. I do know that a few years back when a ton of word train, song name, and other word game threads were clogging up CMT folks complained and asked that they be moved to the games forum, which didn't happen because they're not the actual sanctioned games in which credits are held and books swapped. In my experience here, whenever these "gamey" tye of threads start to accrue in large numbers, those that aren't interested start to get annoyed.

There are a whole bunch of threads in all the forums, heck entire forums, that don't interest me.  I don't have any issue scrolling right on past and not opening them.  Just because something doesn't interest me doesn't mean someone else isn't interested.  That's what makes us all so great, we're not all the same.

I don't think anyone here is out to play forum police and tell people what they can and can't post.  I don't have you on ignore Marya, I enjoy your posts.

Why can't there be a separate forum for captioning images? It seems like there is one for everything else.

It does get a little annoying at times when the first three or four threads out of the first five are for captions.  Remember, the dates on the main forum page list when a change is made. So you go in and discover it's for another caption. However, if this was the biggest annoyance I faced on a daily basis I'd get down on my knees and offer a prayer of thanks.

I enjoy the captioning threads.  I just wish I was better at coming up with good captions.  The pictures alone are worth seeing.  Some of them Marya comes up with are just beautiful, others are just plain cute, and worth a look even if you don't want to play along.

I read the captioning threads but I'm not clever enough to come up with amazing captions. I like those captioning threads..they're fun for me.

And there wasn't one for today .....maybe there won't be any anymore and then no one worries about seeing them.

Personally, I see topics that I don't care for ans scroll on by,....

I don't have much interest in the captions threads though I do browse them now and again because sometimes it's some funny stuff. For myself, I'm all the time got some kind of "OMG! You'll never believe what happened in the cab the other day..." and was concerned about clogging up the general discussions forum over With The Banned, so I just started a thread called, "More tales from the taxi..." and post them all in there as they come up. That way anybody with an interest can check it out but people who don't can easily just slip right on past them. I don't think anybody is offended, Marya, just expressing a preference.

Never saw this conversation... apparently it was while I was on vacation.

My 2 cents....

There are lots of topics I have no interest in so I just pass them by.  I enjoy the captioning threads and now that they are gone the forum has become like a graveyard.... too quiet.

I don't know how, but I missed it too. As the others, if I'm not interested I just drive by. The captions are fun.

Sorry for the demise of the caption threads. Shows that it's impossible to please everyone. There is a pic a day thread started by Adrienne (Thank  you!) but it's more fuss to caption and it gets lost. I find I'm posting the most pics on it and don't know if that's OK with those interested or not. Pity those who didn't care for the caption pics couldn't simply scroll on by,perhaps they prefer a graveyard CMT.

On the contrary, now that CMT isn't clogged with 5-10 captioning threads a day, there has been a major increase in forum activity, with 36 threads started and/or under active discussion in the last 5 days--and over a holiday weekend to boot.

There is a pic a day thread started by Adrienne...but...it gets lost...I'm posting the most pics on it

Is it maybe getting lost because there's not as much interest as you had originally thought, especially if you're the one doing the majority of the posting in it? I don't know, just food for thought. Maybe those threads were active simply because there were so gosh darn many of them and everything else was being crowded out.

Lastly, you asked that we all drop it, and we did. Yet here you are...STILL complaining that not everyone loves your captioning threads. I much prefer CMT as it stands today, lively with over 35 active conversations, with captions in their own special thread so that all can still participate in CMT.

When I do post pictures they do get captioned but the nfew others are posting pictures.

Others did post after I did and I guess since you also posted here neither of us has actually dropped it.

Maybe because captioning isn't as interesting to as many others as it is to you?

Others did post after I did and I guess since you also posted here neither of us has actually dropped it.

As of June 27, we had all dropped it. There was no further response. See: http://www.paperbackswap.com/Why-Action/topic/308429/. You asked us to drop it, and there were no further posts. Now here we are, 7 days later, and YOU bring it back up again. And yes, I responded to your post. Perhaps I shouldn't have. I would have thought that after an entire week you would have been over your hurt feelings because not everyone liked a CMT clogged with captioning threads, and frankly, I was surprised to see YOU bring it up again after YOU asked that it be dropped.  However--I am now done responding to you. Should you wish to respond, you are of course well within your rights to do so, but understand that it will be YOU who will not let it drop from hereon out, because I've said what I've had to say, repeatedly, and if you still don't get it then I doubt you ever will (probably because you're not even trying to understand what we're saying).

Peace out.
