Intermediate to Advanced crocheting skill level. All the afghans have cross stitch on the crocheted base, which is just not my thing. I got the book as a gift, and none of the patterns appealed to me as something to put that much work into. Some nice baby afghans, but mostly the patterns were simply not to my taste. Expect to spend a lot of time on each project, even with good skills. Typical of Linsley's books, the directions are clear and easy to follow. The pictures give a good idea of the finished project.

What a great book! Now you don't have to decide whether your next craft project will be to crochet an afghan or to cross-stitch a sampler. This book makes it possible for you to do both - with the same project.
There are 26 designs with every project accompanied by a color photo of the completed afghan. The instructions are simple, clear, and easy-to-follow. Crochet the background canvas using the simple afghan stitch. The grid formed by the afghan stitches makes it easy to lay in the cross-stitch design, following the clearly drawn charts and color keys. And because the stitches are large, you see your design evolve very quickly.
So, collect your palette of yarns, choose a design, and begin illustrating your own afghans! The only problem will be - there are so many great looking afghans in this book, you will have a hard time deciding which one to make first!

This is the book that you need if you want to make something that you won't see in many other homes. One of these afghans would make a great gift, but only for someone who has a great appreciation for the time, work, and skill involved in completing such a project. These do take time, but it is time very well spent. The instructions are very clear. If you are already good at Tunisian and you know how to do needlepoint, you will find these afghans a breeze to make! Even if you are not proficient in these skills, you will be able to make the items in this book as long as you are patient and willing to learn.
