I got an order for one of my hardback books, and it was in 100% pristine condition.  But wouldn't you know it, the dust jacket got caught on a button on my shirt of all things (me = klutz!), and got a small tear at the bottom.  I was so chagrined that I impulsively sent off this pm to the requestor:

--------------

Thanks for ordering my book.  I am hoping to mail it out by the weekend. The book is a hard-cover in excellent condition, but I wanted to let you know that the bottom-front of the dust jacket has a very small (3/4") tear, which has been repaired with tape (behind it, not showing). Dust jackets aren't required by PBS condition guidelines, so I could have just removed it and sent the book to you. But I wanted to be up-front about this, in case you were expecting a book with a pristine dust jacket. (I can send you a picture if you wish.)  Do you still want me to send you the book?

---------------

As I said, it was an impulsive PM because I was so upset with myself for damaging the dust jacket.  Now I wish I hadn't sent it but what's done is done.

So now that it's two days later and I haven't gotten any response, should I just mail the book?  What would you do?

Deb

I'd mail it too.  DJs are not required so a DJ in any condition exceeds PBS guidelines.

I agree - send it.  If this situation happens to you again, make sure you put a deadline in the PM - like "If I don't hear back from you by [date], I'll assume you want it and will go ahead and send" or something like that.

I just got a book with a torn dust cover and threw it away (the cover, not the book) rather than mess with it, so I agree just send it!!  :)-
