I just posted a Tarot reading type of book that came with the divination cards... what If I can't find those cards? Do I not post the book? (It is a wishlisted book)

The book is called The Faeries' Oracle by Brian Froud and Jessica Macbeth. The listing I saw said "including deck of cards" which I don't know if I still have????

Yes, if the book is supposed to include something with it--like cards, or a CD or other additional stuff, you should be sure you have that with the book if you list it--whoever has it wishlisted almost certainly will think that the extra item will be included if the description has that item listed with the book.

You could try offering it as a freebie with another order from your bookshelf over in the book bazaar.

I looked this up in the help section & it seems it would depend on whether you need the cards in order to use the book.  I'm pasting the specifics below.  I'm assuming that divination cards do not count as media materials.  If they are not media, then you could post the book without them.  But if you do post it I would definitely send a PM to the requestor & let them know you only have the book available.  This would give them the option to pass on it & ensure a good swap.

  • Books that require supplementary Media materials MAY be Posted

    • supplementary Media materials include CD(s)/CD-ROMs/DVD(s)/VHS tape(s)
    • if the book originally included supplementary Media materials, the supplementary materials must accompany the book for the book to be postable.
  • Books that require non-Media supplementary materials MAY NOT be posted

    • an example would be a book that requires a decoder or craft materials
    • these items cannot be sent MediaMail
  • Books that originally had accompanying non-Media materials that are not required to read the book (ie, jewelry) MAY be posted.
    • The extra material does not have to be included, and if it is included, the book must not be sent using Media mail rate.

I'm familiar with that book and deck and they are not something that are sold separtely. The cards do belong to the book as a set and really should be included with the book you are offering.

If you can't locate the cards, following Cheryl's advice would be best. Offer it as a freebie with another order from your bookshelf over in the book bazaar.

If the PBS listing says it includes the cards then don't post it w/o them.  Whoever gets it will be expecting the cards and will want their credit back if you don't send them.

If I can add to this, the cards are not mailable via Media Mail, therefore, the book is not postable. Since the cards are a necessary addition to the book. Not everything with an ISBN is postable on PBS, and just because it is WL'd still doesn't make it postable.

From the above posted Help Center info:

Books that require non-Media supplementary materials MAY NOT be posted

  • an example would be a book that requires a decoder or craft materials
  • these items cannot be sent MediaMail

In light of these thoughts on materials being included with a book, what are your thoughts on the Klutz books?  Postable?  If so, allowed through Media Mail?  (For example: http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9781591741671-Window+Art+Klutz   or   http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9781570548703-Crochet+Learn+to+Crochet+Six+Great+Projects+Klutz )

Those are completely UNpostable because of the squirt-on color bottles and yarn!  Nix on the Media Mail - if opened for inspection, the recipient is absolutely liable for the First Class "upgrade" price difference as postage due!

Actually, John, I think they send the package on at Priority Rates when they find unacceptable items in them.

According to the rules shown above from the Help Center, Stephanie, it is not postable at all.

That's too bad, because I have several of them on my wish list and have gotten a few.  A couple have come with the supplies and a couple haven't, but either way, the books are great craft idea books for my young daughters.  The face painting one, for example, comes with face painting (the one I requested didn't, but that was fine, I would have wanted to buy new, anyway) and has great examples and techniques for how to do face painting.  Another one I ordered on how to braid hair, originally came with hair scrunchies, but weren't included with the ones I ordered, and the book itself has great pictures, techniques, and directions on how to braid my daughters hair.  In other words, I don't really care about the materials that originally came with the books, I just want the books for the techniques and ideas.

This is one of those areas that need better wording to me. The accompanying vs required non-media. If it just accompanies it, it is postable without the stuff, if it is required it is completely not postable. To me - the hair example would be postable. The scrunchies are not required for use of the book. The face painting one is more of a grey area for me, some would consider the paint required, but yet the book is usable without it because you could buy the paint elsewhere. I don't like this category at ALL.

And however you read the rules--PLEASE if your copy doesn't include whatever the extra is and you post it send a PM and cancel if the receiver doesn't respond or responds they don't want it.

I'm still miffed over having requested a book and getting *part* of the deck of cards that came with it.  It was being requested for a housewarming gift for a friend.  While used was just fine--incomplete was NOT.

(I'm not all grumpy--someone else PMed me that one of their books didn't have the figure it came with. I was sad, but I accepted it anyway--the figure was just icing on the book cake).
