I had a book that was marked in the system as mailed May 30.  I just received it today and the post mark is June 13 - 2 weeks later.  Nothing was updated in PBS system.  I had PM'd this person 2 or 3 times and no response.  Is there anything I can do so this person doesn't do this as a habit?  Or do I just marked ok and put a note in the system?

When you fill in the postmark, the system knows it was mailed late and the person will probably get an email telling them they shouldn't be mailing books late. You can put a note in the bottom box noting it too, but it is not a RWP transaction.

As far as the non-response to PMs, the site does not like that and usually wants to know. In this case you were PMing well before the lost date and most people will ignore PMs like that because there is nothing to be done until that point (I would respond, but I would also be annoyed by repeated PMs 2 weeks after the book was marked mailed). It would have been courtious to let you know the book hadn't been mailed, but you never know their circumstances. They could have asked someone else to mail the book and didn't know it wasn't mailed. It could have been returned to them...

Nothing was updated in PBS system  - there is no way for the system to be updated for a late mailing.

I would just let it go. The system deals with habitual late mailers.

Thank you!  I will do that.

It would have been nice to send an email as to the lateness, etc.

I will mark it correctly and note to PBS and this person about it.

Thanks

I had one like that.  When the book came I marked it.  I sent a note to PBS (the block at the bottom) stating that it was sent 2 weeks later than stated.  I also sent a note to the sender saying it would have been nice if they could have been more honest about the posting date.  Never heard from them.  Pat

Keep in mind that sometimes a PO won't postmark mail until later.  So it is entirely possible that the book was mailed on time, but the postage wasn't cancelled until later.

No, the postage stamp with the dollar amount was 2 weeks later than when she said she mailed it. So she went to the PO on that day.

Thanks!

well, you also might consider and I know this is a stretch...she marked it mailed because she sent it with someone to mail that day and oops they didn't but, didn't tell her so, she didn't ever know and so didn't know to PM you...that is always a possibility...

I just received one the same way today, marked mailed the end of May. She is in a FEMA emergency area and is lucky to be getting the books out let alone PMing or answering them. With the weather around the country lately we will need to be a little more patient and forgiving of our fellow members.

I had a book I requested go lost one time.  The member PM'd a few days before it went lost to say she found a bunch of her books in the trunk of her husband's car.  He had said he would mail them for her, stuck them in his trunk and forgot about them.

Personally, if I get the book before it goes lost then I don't really care if it was mailed a little after the deadline. Sometimes life happens.  I wouldn't PM someone before a book has gone lost.  Sometimes they take a month or longer to arrive even when mailed on time.

Fill out the little survey when marking the book received. If they're a chronic late mailer then they'll get a warning from PBS.

It does seem like it's happening more and more lately though.  My first several months, I didn't notice it at all.  This spring I've had four or so that were marked mailed at least 2 weeks earlier than the postmark.  Or in one case, almost a full month.

It's not that it's the end of the world, and I have a huge pile of TBRs.  It's just rude.
