Great first book by Michael Lawson. Joe DeMarco is in over his head while being asked to investigate the assaination attempt of the President. His investigation has him face to face with Secret Service Director Patrick Donnely. The investigation goes back more than 40 years to piece together the crime of today. The twists and turns kept me interested through the pages.

I discovered this author by accident and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Purely on the basis of the few chapters I could read before Amazon decided to cut me off, I am not going to get the book - I'm pretty sure I'd toss it out. It's an interesting set-up for a murder mystery: our hero knows only a few facts and knows what were the reactions of each of the major players. It would be fun to watch him tease out the truth of the matter, but ... Lawson's prose is so clunky I would not be able to bear it. Lawson uses way too many similes and metaphoric characterizations; he can't arrange the clauses of a complex sentence to unambiguously communicate who did what to whom and with whose whatsit; he does not even have an interesting inner life. Life's too short to spend it in the company of Lawson and his creations.

decent effort of investigation of attemped assassination of president. Takes you all over country. Fast read. Lots of action. Not great, but worth a few hours if you like this genre.

Well written. Heart pounding, noon-stop action with a believable premise. Looking forward to more exciting adventures of Joe Demarco and Emma!

I'm a fan of government intelligence conspiracy books. This one is ok, just not meaty enough for me.

I'm surprised at the rating of 1 star for this book - I enjoyed it. It's not your usual down on his luck lawyer who makes good - it's more along the lines of true life. I enjoyed it.
