I mailed a swap book media mail with USPS tracking.  Unfortunately, I neglected to add the apartment number.  While I realize no one can know for sure, I'm just wondering if you think it will be returned to me.  The tracking number says it's being returned to sender, yet I know they don't have to do that with media mail.  I know it will come postage due if it does get returned.  I'm just wondering what your experience has been.  Do you think it will be returned to me?

I once used insufficient postage on a media mail package. (PBS had the weight wrong).  The book was returned to me with no problems.

Undeliverable Media Mail is returned to the sender, postage due.

I recently sent a book via media mail that was returned to me.   Was returned without any postage due.

from a positive viewpoint perhaps the apt complex is small and they will deliver it based on addressee's name even without the unit number.

My understanding is that there's no charge for forwarding or returning media mail locally, but that return/forwarding postage is charged for anything that isn't considered local.  In my experience, though, sometimes they charge and sometimes they don't.   When they don't, it always feels like a gift.

Media Mail is a subclass of Package Services.  If it cannot be delivered, here is how it is supposed to be handled (hope the formatting transfers over):

If no change-of-address order on file:

Piece returned with reason for nondelivery attached; return postage charged as follows:

Parcel Select: at the Parcel Select Nonpresort price plus the additional service fee.

Standard Post and Package Services: at the appropriate single-piece price for the specific class of mail.

It was returned - no postage due.  Yay!  I added the apartment number, and mailed it out again at the post office.
