I found a great paperback book with an ISBN not found in the PBS system, even Bookfinder.com calls it an invalid ISBN. The same book from 1999( mine 1998) and the same publisher has a different ISBN. Can I list my book with a recognized ISBN.? How can I get the different ISBN in the system? The book for the curious { I would be} is Anne Frank the biography, by Melissa Muller.

YOu have to go by the ISBN that is on the book.  You cannot pick another one that looks close.  Sometimes an ISBN is listed on the publishing info page.  If the ISBN on the book doesn't work and there isn't one on the publishing page-you need to post it without and ISBN.

I agree -- you must post it without an ISBN. If you want to, you can tag it with "same as ISBN ..."

What happens when you try to post it using the post page? Enter the ISBN #...does it bring up a page that you have to fill in all the info? If so, then you can go that way instead of posting it without an ISBN. But you can not list it under another ISBN that is not the one on the book!

If I try to post from the post books page , nothing happens,, I want to post it w/ the right ISBN. Thank you Mary for reminding me to look on the publishing info page; there is a whole different ISBN on the inside , but that ISBN comes up as a hardback edition. The pub. info page also says this is the first American edition, whatever that means.

Is there a way to get the different ISBN recognized?

No, you need to use the "post book without ISBN" feature.

It's possible that a typo was made in publishing when they put the ISBN on the book.  But it still needs to be posted without an ISBN.

Fara--

While it may be tempting to post the item under a more "popular" ISBN, if you post and send it under a different ISBN, the recipient can mark it "Received with a Problem -- Wrong Book", which puts a black mark on your record, and ask for their credit to be refunded, since you haven't sent them the exact item requested.  Author, title, ISBN and binding type must all match.  Since yours does not, as others have stated, you post it as a non-ISBN item.

It sounds like it may an Advanced Readers Copy. Make sure to look over the book to find any phase that might indicate that since those are not postable here at all. They are put out prior to the release of the real book and may not be the same as the final published book. They are often larger paperback books that bear the ISBN of the hardcover.

If the book bears a valid ISBN, but it is not in the system, you shouldn't have to post it as a book without an ISBN, you should be able to post it with the ISBN that is has on it. If that's an option, then it would open that screen when you are in the posting process. If its showing as not being a valid ISBN, then you'd need to post it as a book without and ISBN.

I absolutely would only post this w/ its' own ISBN and I am going to take the time to read it first. It is not an arc . I may just have to donate it to the library, because I have not had any luck w/ books w/ no covers . And there are others in the system just like mine just 1 year younger. Thanks ,I guess this ISBN didn't make the alternate list .

You can always find an image of the cover and upload it when you post it without an ISBN.
