This is a very nice collection of more than 100 Irish folktales. The book divides the tales into several categories: The Old Story which includes classic tales and acts as a prelude to the rest of the book, Faith, Wit, Mystery, History, and Fireside Tales. The writing is very accessible and engaging, as folktales should be. The collection makes for a wonderful read but goes above and beyond most folktale collections by being very scholarly as well. Recoded for each tale is a location, date, source, and notes. A 9 page bibliography in the back provided me a great springboard for learning more. Overall, highly recommended for both the scholar, the enthusiast, and the casual reader.
