Why is it that when one orders a book, sometimes the request sits and sits....I ordered 2 books from someone and they are still waiting. So if they roll over they won't be from the same person. I like to do people a favor when I can...is it possible that some people are not obsessive about checking things like their email and their PBS account??  It is just so irritating! I had this happen with quite a few YA books I had wanted....well now I am getting the rest of the series through ILL. Its ridiculous!

I don't know what their story is.  I always look at a person's account when I order from them and if I see that they haven't listed a book to their shelf or their wish list in a long time, I think that they are inactive and it's going to take awhile until they roll over.  I never order 2 from one person if I have my doubts.

LOL this reminds me, I took advantage of someone's book deal months ago, it was like 20 harlequin presents for 4 credits or something, which was confirmed by the person doing the deal.  So I  ordered 4 books (4 credits) , days later I noticed some marked mailed and others only accepted.  Good thing I checked because apparantly, that irresponsible member actually, forgot to click accept or anything at all, so it rolled over to other members.   Needless to say, I ended up spending 3 credits on 3 harlequins ( who spends a credit each for these books?!)...  And when I sent a polite PM explaining what had happened, the person didn't even apologize, completely ignored me lol... so Anne, watch your orders, especially if you're spending multiple credits on the same member.

Oh, what about the BOB offers!  I hate it when people don't decline or accept within a week... I've done BOB  with some members who took 3, yes THREE weeks to respond to anything.

Well, these are not little harlequins, in fact if one rolls over it will go onto my WL. I don't mind spending a credit for a book that's highly requested. I just wish that people would follow through and accept their orders!  Oh well, I guess we can't all be PBS addicts :)  That's why I like dealing with forum members!

I agree.  This is irritating.  I wish everyone were as on top of their requests as we are,  You could always cancel and reorder, but that causes another delay.

I know in the "about PBS" forum, this comes up and everyone sorta jumps on the OP to remind them that some people don't have computer access every day, and some people can't afford the postage so they let it sit til the end, yada yada yada. It's kinda fun to see it posted here where we can say "Yeah! It's annoying!" at least just to vent!!!

Because sometimes it's because the person let their account lapse or whatever. It's not so hard for a mbr to send a PM saying "I can't send it right away but will get to it as soon as I can" or something once the request comes in. The 5 day wait can stretch into weeks if several of the people first in line are not checking their account - that happened to me in the summer. I figured they went on vacation and didn't put their accounts on hold, maybe. From what I understand, the system has changed so that if an account has 2 lapsed requests, it goes on hold - I hope that is true, and if so you can tell yourself you're helping PBS close those accounts ... while you wait... and wait...

I actually had a WL book come up - it had been on my WL for about 1 year - I accepted it immediately. Now you know that means someone posted it right then because I was #1 on the list. But it sat. And Sat. And sat. So I pm'd the mbr - who did respond with something about not realizing it was there and yeah they would send it. It LAPSED and I'm still #1 on the list. Now, why in the world did that person post that book, acknoweldge my PM and still let it lapse?

I actually let a book lapse once and it was completely my fault, but it was an error that I didn't take into account.

I put my account on vacation hold for the day I was leaving town and someone ordered a book from me a couple of minutes before midnight the day before it went on hold.  It was going to go on vacation hold within minutes.  Of course, I didn't have time to check my email before going out of town and missed the request.

I just got a book a couple days ago and went to mark it received and the sender had never marked it mailed, so the transaction was cancelled and the request went to the next person. Luckily, I was able to cancel that. I did contact the woman who sent the book, she was brand new and forgot to mark it mailed so I buddied her a credit. Maybe she'll remember next time. lol

Well it appears that they have finally taken our suggestions and now after 2 timed out transactions, an account goes on hold.  I wish they would make it one.  If it's someone active who had an emergency and couldn't get on the computer for a while-then they're saved from having to repost books and start at the end of WL and FIFO lines.  If it's someone inactive then they're books are out of the system and they are no longer slowing down WL lines.  So we should see some improvement on how quickly things get accepted.  People say it isn't fair to order from buddies and offer WL books to buddies. But the time outs are what make people want to skip FIFO and find someone they know will respond.

Ok I thought they would roll over after 48 hours. I requested these Requested On: 11/8/08 9:10 AM ET, so do I still have a couple of days?  I sent the member a PM about the books.

People have 5 days to accept or decline a request before it times out and passes on to the next person.  You have 48hrs to accept or decline a WL offer before it times out and offers it to the next person in line.

I have a WL book that I am just not going to get.  First it was available in the system.  I had a BOB deal for it fall through.  Then I requested the remaining copy.  That one was accepted to mail and then timed out after not being marked mailed.  It put the book on my WL. I was offered the book by someone else, I accepted right away and not it's just sitting there going on 2 days now.  Of course it could just be that this person needs some extra time to mail it out.  I hope that the problem.  Maybe I'm not meant to have this book.

I think you're stuck waiting 5 days...sucks I know. I ordered 3 from the same person to save them postage and was stuck..I noticed after the 5th day that one was accepted and checked and it had rolled over..well I went to that person's shelf and saw she had one more I had ordered so cancelled the toher one and ordered then she pm'd within 30 min and said she had another to post and it was the other I had ordered so I ended up ordering all 3 from a 2nd person and they mailed out within a couple of days.

and you're right, it's kinda funny in the CMT section impatient people are bashed but geez I wanna order from someone who's gonna send my stuff out! and I've had 2 deals cancelled...good thing i was able to cancel when it rolled over.

Yeah, I find it annoying too!  It's not that hard to check in at least every 24 hrs and at least accept the requests waiting for you.  Even if you don't mail them right away, at least it's acknowledging that  you've seen the request.

I wish you had 48 hrs to accept or decline regular requests as well as WL books.  I want to order books from someone that'll send them out quickly too, I always mail within 2 days.  Most of the time it's next day.

I almost have to force myself not to accept requests immediately, and that's even doing it only when I'm carefully budgeting my postage money and have to mail on certain days.  It's hard for me not to select that I'll mail within two days as well.  Pushing all of it out to the limit of what PBS allows is pretty much unheard of for me, but I have had to do it once or twice since money has been tighter recently.  I've been keeping my shelf on hold and only taking it off a couple of days before pay day, just because it's too much juggling to figure out how many days I'll have to wait to accept a request, and I don't really feel comfortable with seeing them just sitting there in limbo every time I log in:P

Oh - I should add that it's easier when it's buddies doing the ordering & you know who it's going to before you accept.  That way you can make arrangements with them in advance if you have to wait a few days to accept or mail, vs. not being able to contact a requestor in FIFO until after you accept the request.

i know sometimes i don't accept an order right away, but if so i'm usually trying to time it so that i can mail once a week on saturday.  if you order from me friday night when i don't have anything else going the next day, or on saturday, i'm probably going to stretch it a little.

but i know the frustration!  recently i decided to order a couple of RL books, and noticed the same person had both, so i ordered them both from her.  she waited days to accept the order, then she didn't mark them mailed until the last minute, and based on the Acceptance DC scan that showed up a couple of days ago, she didn't *actually* mail them for another week past that.  grr.  no PM mentioning she couldn't mail for a while or sorry i just found the package again or anything.

The same thing happened to me to, Ellen.  I ordered some books and was pm'd and told that they would send it out at the end of the week.  No problem, right!?  At the end of the week the books were marked mailed.  One week passed...the second week passed...finally 3 weeks later the books arrived.  I then found out that she had not mailed them until 2 weeks after she said they were mailed.

Talk about how to beat the system!!

On another note, there was a complaint recently about the WL thread, remember? And someone asked don't we check to see if the book is on auto-request? So I did that with a book today, and it was on auto, so I posted it FIFO! Seems like a good way to know that it will be accepted, to me. Though the person could still cancel it, I know.

I get the frustration, and I'm usually on every day...but real life happens.  Like this weekend we had a family wedding and somehow checking PBS wasn't at the top of my list.  So if somebody had ordered from me on Friday then they wouldn't have heard from me until today.

I ordered a book from a member in early October. After it rolled over to the 3rd person waiting to respond, I cancelled it myself thinking, " bad omen, must not read this book". Lol! I decided maybe I would read it later from the library. I know I should be patient, but I hate waiting for someone to respond to a book I want.

Guess I'm one of the strange ones - I turn the computer on in the AM and it's on until I go to bed at night, and I check several times during the day (I have that luxury as I'm retired), but I would think that if one belonged to PBS or any other site where iems are traded, sold, etc., they'd be on top of it and would check at least once a day (I do know things happen occasionally, but not every day).

I'm not so much impatient (yes I am) as I just want things to finish up ASAP and not hang out there.  Pat

I'm in the midst of another WL scenario: if it has just come to my WL, then someone must have just posted it, right? So why am I on day 4 of waiting for them to accept? It just seems like if you post a book on that's on WL, you must know someone wants it and it will be accepted pretty quickly, so ...

guess I shouldn't make any assumptions... I have posted WL books that went through more than one cycle, waiting for someone to accept it. That's why I post them here now - at least I know someone actually wants it!

Well both WL books were finally accepted.  The one I posted was finally picked up and the one I reuqested was finally accepted with a mail by date of tomorrow so that's good.

Melinda maybe they need some extra time to mail it out so they're waiting to accept.  Usually when I post a WL book, I'll hit the PM button and check out the rest of their WL.  I think some people come on, post books w/o paying attention and then don't come on for a few days.

i admit, i do that one to people semi-regularly.  i know that when you say 'will mail by', it actually gives you two more days to mark it mailed.  so i'd rather accept the order now, and choose the farthest out mail date even if i know i won't mail until two days later but still within the grace period, rather than waiting two extra days to accept the order so that i'm always mailed by the 'will mail by' date.
