My first reaction was it's stained and unpostable. But, its ink. A name written or stamped on the page edges in ink or marker does not make a book unpostable as long as it doesn't bleed into the words - so I don't think a spot would either. I would say it is postable. I would not post it myself, but I would not mark it RWAP.

I am like Melanie--my first thought was "ink stain--staining is not allowed".  If you want to be safe, you could post it in the Book Bazaar, describe the stain and that it's on the edge and doesn't affect text, and if it's a WL book someone is sure to take it.  That avoids the chance of your getting a RWAP for it.  I hate it when that happens, too--book in otherwise great shape with some little flaw.  Good luck with it!

I think it is an ink stain and I would say postable. ink marks are allowed on books (more or less). It is not gross or disgusting in any way and it does not make the book unreadable.

I would say not postable, because it is stained even if it's just an ink stain, and PBS rules say "no stains" with the only exceptions being cookbooks.

You could probably easily find a taker for it in the Book Bazaar, though.

ETA: This is one of those books that I would not RWAP if it was sent to me, but I would not post myself because I think it is, technically, unpostable.

It would not bother me to receive a book like that but I would not take a chance on getting a RWAP therefore I would not post it.  I'd do as the others say and see if any people in the bazaar want it.

I received a book with an ink stain just like this.  I think it was a remainder mark gone wild.  I did not RWAP it, but I have not reposted.  Mostly because I haven't read it yet.

It's postable.  Just let anyone who requests it know, so that they can't RWAP after the book is received.  But if their RC says no marks, I wouldn't send it.  That way everyone will be happy.  :)

I hope your book gets a good home with your friend!

I would not post it personally as while reminder marks are ok, it is a stain, and it did bleed onto text pages. No writing or ink allowed on text pages, does not matter if they do not touch the text, writing in the margins is still not ok (unless it is in the text book rule and it must be cleared first) but this stain would not fall under that rule either. I can see why others would call it postable and I would nto RWAP it personally but I also would not post such a book either!
