I tried to post a large trade sized paperback book. Margaret Atwood Alias Grace isbn number 0385475713. It says it's supposed to be a hardback book. The isbn number for the paperback book is not the correct isbn number for this book. Any suggestions?

  Hi Thomas,

From the PBS Help Center:

Problem: You enter the ISBN on your paperback and the book Listing Preview says "hardcover".

This means one of two things:

1.  Your book is an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC)

If your book is a paperback, and the ISBN brings up a Book Listing Preview that says "hardcover", please check your book to be sure it is not an ARC.   If it is an ARC, it cannot be Posted for swapping at PBS.

Solution: You can offer this book to others in the Book Bazaar Discussion Forum, but you cannot Post it to your PBS bookshelf.

Or

2. The publisher chose to assign the same ISBN to more than one version of this title.

Publishers sometime choose to assign the same ISBN to multiple versions of a book.  However, PBS can attach only ONE booktype to the listing for an ISBN.  If your book does not have the booktype assigned to the ISBN in the PBS database, you will need to post it with a customized listing, using the Post a Book Without an ISBN link on the Post Books page, so that the booktype matches your book.

Solution: You will need to post this book with a customized listing for the book, using the Post Books without an ISBN link on the Post Books page.

I hope this helps!

It's not an ARC book.

Thanks

Hi,

Sounds like #2 fits the situation, so you'll need to post the book without an ISBN.

I just had this happen, and it's probably the wrong way, but I posted a book that was paperback but listed as hardcover.  When it was requested I PM'd the requester and let them know it was paperback, and asked if they still wanted it.  They were fine with it but maybe I shouldn't do that anymore??

books that do not match the isbn listed on the site are supposed to be posted without an isbn. It only takes a few minutes to do it.

The help is very clear on this. You cannot post a book using the isbn if the binding (book type) do not match. You must post it by the no isbn process. It is not fair to the person ordering the book that you post book a book you don't have especially if it is a WL book and they lose their place in line. Someone frequently posting and sending books with wrong binding can be kicked off the site.

I recently received a book that was posted as leather-bound, however, the book I received was a paperback.  The sender said that she entered the ISBN correctly and that she didn't realize that the book that came up listed a different binding.

I've encountered this when posting books I got from Quality Paperback Book Club.  They are paperbacks but have the ISBN of the hardcover.  I've posted them as no ISBN and they've been requested in time.
