This book is a hard to find publication of the history of Eastport, Maine, an island city bordering Canada. It covers people, places, sports, celebrations, business development including an intense amount of information on the sardine industry. Eastport was the site of the first sardine packing plants in the USA.
The book also discusses the fires, gales, hurricanes, and earthquakes witch destroyed parts of the island and the city at different times. Prominent Americans from Eastport are also discussed.
A fair amount of attention is given to the time of the British occupation. Eastport was the only city in the USA to be occupied and controlled by the British during the War. Citizens were forced to swear loyalty to the King or loose their property.
Having become a recent member of the Eastport community the book was extremely interesting to me.
