This is a great book. There are times when it really slows down; however, it is worth working through the slow parts for the rest. Great combat, interesting plot, and a slew of great characters. An excellent read!

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters stayed consistent and the science & research was well thought-out. I would definitely recommend this one and will be looking for others by this author.

This is a great time travel/ alternate history book. Good details, great imagination and solid writing. Recommended to everyone who likes science fiction.

The story was interesting, but the author has a very dark place in his soul that comes out in the form of described rape, torture, etc. I finished book one, but am opting out of the rest of the series. If that sort of thing doesn't disturb you, the book was well written. If it would bother you, you'd best pass. Also, very poor research especially in the medical field. I had a number of eye roll moments from that.

I loved this book! Another excellent take you away from it all, read by S.M. Sterling. I agree with some of the other reviewers that in spots it could get a bit slow. Overall the book was fantasic though- just as the other work's of Sterling that I have read are. Are there sequels to this book? Another commenter alluded to such. Does anyone know?

This was an entertaining read with a wide array of interesting characters, but I felt on occasion the author didn't exploit opportunities to expand on building a new society from scratch. Some of the technical details were lacking or rushed. The sub-plot of the main antagonist was a bit too wild and unbelievable, and it seems like his character development could have lent to a better plot. The book was also about 100 pages too long in the way epic fantasies are too long, but Stirling manages to carry it well enough.

This is a very interesting alternate history book. Nantucket Island is suddenly transported into 1250 B. C. There are two or more subsequent books that I am currently looking for.

Good book. In line with Stirling's other novels. If you like this kind of "what would happen if" genre you will like this book.

It was interesting and a good "what if" you went back in time by some fluke.

Got through about 100 pages of this too long book and gave up. I thought the premise was interesting but was not interested in what happened to most of the characters.

After a storm sweeps Nantucket Island, the residents find they have traveled into the past. 1250, to be exact. Can they survive?

During a perfect spring evening on Nantucket a violent storm erupts and a dome of crawling colored fire blankets the island. When the howling winds subside and the night skies clear, the stars appear to have shifted. The mainland has vbecome a wilderness of unbroken forest, where tools of bronze and tone litter the beaches and primitive natives scatter in terror.

A startling phenomenom has occured; the island if Nantucket has been swept into the long-ago past of the year of 1250 B.C.

From the dust jacket: "During a chilly spring evening on Nantucket, a violent storm erupts and a dome of crawling, colored fire blankets the island. When the howling winds subside and the night skies clear, the stars appear to have shifted. The mainland has become a wilderness of unbroken forest, where tools of bronze and stone litter the beaches, and primitive natives scatter in terror. With no warning or explanation, the island of Nantucket has been swept into the past. Its inhabitants are adrift in the year 1250 B.C.--without farms, factories, medicine or electricity--and there is only one question to be answered: Can they survive? Enlisting the help of an astronomer and a classical history professor, Nantucket's chief of police and the captain of a Coast Guard training ship set out to prepare the townsfolk for the hard times ahead. In the process, they must deal with Bronze Age people from the British Isles to Central America, and with a power-hungry young Coast Guard officer who plans on exploiting their situation for his own purposes."
