I think this is one of the best of Anne Rivers Siddons Lowcountry stories of a group of friends set in SC. There is a surprise ending. I love all her books.

Rivers Siddons is an expert about recreating the beautiful low country of Charlston. Her stories are long narratives about friendship, love and betrayal. Good read.
