I always read prologues, introductions, dedications, etc. but in this case you'll be so turned off by the obtuse and difficult languaging that you'll never get to the book. The story is amusing and with enough subtleties to make it intriguing without the need for a notebook to keep track of all of the subplots.

Be forewarned: This book claims to be "Complete and Unabridged" (says so in large type on the back of the book), but the original Ivanhoe has 44 chapters and this version only has 29.

I liked this book when I read it in High School. It may be a little simplistic for an adult though. It pulls out all the now cliche items like meeting Robin Hood and jousting for the maiden. The writing is typically straight forward and easy to follow.

From Robin Hood to King Richard the Lion-Hearted. This tale is vivid and exciting. Great adolescent reading!

This is my favorite book of all time. Adventure, romance, everything you could possibly want. It's by far the best Robin Hood legend too.

My family enjoyed listening to this classic together. Sir Walter Scott is very descriptive when introducing his characters. It was fun to learn who all of the characters turned out to really be!
