I have them in my tbr but haven't read them  yet. I've heard they're really good though. Seems like the paranormal forum has had discussions about these..I'm curious to know how much romance is in them vs just paranormals fighting or whatever that seems to be in alot of paranormal faves.

I'm actually trying to get my hands on the series...the name floated around all the time and I kind of wanted to see what all the hype was about. I went and read a couple of exerpts on the author's webpage and decided to go for it...I've not read paranormal (unless you count Twilight) but this series has me intigued. It's a good time of year to read them I think :)

P.S. I'd love to know your thoughts when you finish the first book as I haven't even bought it yet

Loved, loved, loved them.  Definitely paranormal romance until she got to book 5 or so and she started going more in the urban fantasy vein (not totally--still some romance, but a lot less.

They are among my favorites of the paranormal genre.  Give 'em a shot!

I think this is one of the best series of this genre out there!  I had them on Mt TBR forever and finally started them and whizzed right through books one through six.  Then I got the Insider (which was very interesting) and book seven.  I've recently started a reread of the series and just started book five...again.

I'm getting so much more out of the series this time around!

Yep, I too think the BDB series is one of the best! I've got the Insider Guide too but haven't gone through it yet. I need to do that soon.

I read a few but they felt all the same to me. And I did not like those parts told kind of from the point of view of the weird evil characters so I skipped them--and I don't think I missed a thing. I read 2-3 of the series and stopped. I enjoyed the characters but it all felt a little predictable to me after a few books.

I loved the first 4 the best --- A lot of tortured heroes, women with redeeming qualities. Like the brotherhood -- Don't like the later ones as much but still haven't given up on them/her - Definitely worth the read - I have a soft spot for book 4 - Butch's story since that was the first one of the series I read --- out of order actually - but I really can't pick just one favorite from the early ones.

I LOVE the series!! So far I have all of them on my keeper shelf.  I found them enjoyable, except Phury's story.  His was just...blah..for me. :)  But if you like Vamps and some action, like fighting and whatnot, then you might like these.  And there is just enough romance in them to keep it fun!

I reread them all too and I still loved them (and I usually don't reread).

I swapped the Insider's Guide a while ago.  (Actually, I used it in a game.)  Ward has a message board and her "cellies" (as she calls them, I think) are a little rabid.  In the Insider's Guide, there are a lot of message board style postings from the Brothers, etc. and shout outs to the "cellies".   The Brothers have profiles, lists of important info, etc.  The only part of the book that I found interesting was the short story in the front of the book.  It was about Zhadist and his daughter.  Nice story.

If you are looking to buy JR Ward's books they are 50% off at The Book Depository right now including Covet and the insider's Guide.  Here is the link.

THAT SERIES (though a couple of them have not been as good as the others, IMO) !!!  It's on my keeper shelf.

They all felt the same to me too, Allie. I stopped reading them aroung book 3 or 4, Z's book, whichever that one is. If the series gets more urban fantasy as they go maybe they're worth looking at again. I am interested in her new series, just waiting for the book to come up on my WL.

The Book Depository has been the bane of my bank account this month, I've been finding all kinds of great deals there and have bought way more books than I usually do. =/

I agree Sarah my bank account doesn't like The Book Depository either.  Yesterday I bought 9 books from them.  All four of the Cat and Bone's series by Jeaniene Frost are 50% off and so is Love you to Death by Shannon K Butcher.  I preorderd Caleb by Sarah McCarty because that is also 50% off.  TBD is a very dangerous place.  Thank goodness they have free shipping.

I got Ilona Andrews new one, just bought G.A. Aiken's 3 dragon books , pre-ordered the new Lords of Avalon by Kinley MacGregor, and Skinwalker by Faith Hunter all 50% off.

I like Jeaniene Frost's series, I think you'll enjoy that one. I wish I would have kept them, but I ended up trading them here.

I always enjoyed the men more than the women in that series - so I can't say this is the best ever.  I stopped after book 4 I think (V's story) and just haven't been motivated to pick it back up since I thought the resolution for V and Butch wasn't working for me.

I have read all but the latest book and will read that one eventually.  It does mostly focus on the romance between the 2 main characters per book, but has some other stuff happening to move the general plot along.   I think they are worth reading.

Some things that bother a lot of folks about the books:

                                           The villians are pretty lame.

The slang she likes to use is very annoying.

                                             The weird spelling is annoying.

People have different opinions about which they like best.  I liked Rhage and Viscous books the best myself and probably liked the Phury romance the least, but the parts that focused on the villians and other characters were better in the Phury book than in some of the others.

I love this series!  It's one of my favorites.  I just got her new book Covet and hope it's just as good.

I do agree that the spelling and slang is a bit annoying but that's ok, I love them anyways.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood is the VERY VERY best of this genre imo - the standard

The Black Dagger Brotherhood is the VERY BEST of the genre imo - the standard by which I judge all others lol. My favorites are Lover Awakened and Lover Unbound. They are all on my keeper shelf and I have read them multiple times. I got used to the ganster slang after the first book and began to love the Brothers so much that now I find it endearing. LOVE those tortured vampires!
