This might contain spoliers for those who haven't read it.
I read Out of the Darkness this weekend, Book 2 of the "Offspring" series without at first realizing there was a story before it. So my question is for those of you who read the first book A Perfect Darkness.
The series is about the offspring of psychic test subjects who were in a government program to boost their physic skills. The experiment had serious emotional side effects and the pyschic parents are now dead, usually by suicide. The offspring (now in early 20's) have inherited the parent's ability and are now being hunted by a quasi-government group to re-start the experiments. I have questions about how some of the characters are related. One of the side affects of the program was hyper-sexuality, so even some of the subjects in loving relatioships had affairs, which resulted in children.
Eric Aruda (Pyrokinesis, Remote Viewing) and Petra Aruda(Healing, Hearing) are identified as brother/sister from the start
Mother was Camilla Aruda (test subject), but they mention Eric's "birth father", indicating he was a different person than Petra's.
Amy Shane (Seeing people's auras, Talking to the dead) - father was a test subject, later earns later that Eric is her half-brother via an affair her father had with his mother, Camilla.
Have I got this right? Was it covered in the first book - at least the part about Eric and Petra having different fathers? Who is older, Camilla or Eric?
Usually the offspring inherit their parent's abilities. Eric was the product of two test subjects and definitely got his mom's ability to start fires. If Petra's dad was just "normal" and she didn't inherit her mom's abilities, where did hers come from?
Thanks for any insight you can shed on this.
