Who tells better animal stories than James Herriot? This book is beautifully illustrated in watercolor style on milky white pages so smooth to the touch. Each of these elements makes the books so rich and elegant you can feel confident sitting on your coffee table for all to see. Each stories is as heartwarming as the next. It is hard to believe they are just that....stories. Each little face and name invokes a memory of one of my beloved pets. I hope it will bring great memories for other readers.
A nice book, but nothing other than the introduction isn't included in his main volumes. If you're a cat lover and want these stories set aside, by all means go ahead. With Herriot you know exactly what you're getting, and if you read him at all you enjoy it, as I do.
For my money, though, the better volumes are the original series in which these stories can be found. There's more there, and it is possible to develop a better sense of his environment and life in the original books.
I am not a cat person - I like cats enough, but I would not own one. I am a happy dog owner who enjoys petting the cats of my friends but going home to actively play with the wild Chief. This collection of cat stories, however, was very touching. Beautifully written, with terrific anecdotes, these stories made me laugh and made me cry. I just loved them! Truly terrific!
If you're a cat lover who likes to read something entertaining but not overly stimulating at bedtime, this book should be on your nightstand. Each chapter is a short story, some sad, some funny, all about living with cats in the Yorkshire Dales.
This is abridged on 2 cassettes. I love listening to James Herriot's tales as he writes with a warmth and compassion that isn't easily found in most books. This collection includes some heartwarming tales of cats that crossed the veterinarian's path. I could listen to Herriot's stories all day, every day. Great stuff and highly recommended for cat lovers.
Great stories, but this is just a collection of the cat stories that are included in Herriot's other books; if you own all the other books, you already have copies of these stories. But the book has nice pictures and would be a good gift for a cat lover who isn't yet a fan of Herriot's books
