Hi everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions on romances like the ones found in Jane Austen's books. I've actually only read Pride and Prejudice but I've heard some of her other books have similar romance elements in that the main couple argue and banter back and forth before coming together. Is there a specific term for this, I'm wondering? Anyway, I'd prefer non-series romances and I'd be interested in both classics and contemporary. Thanks!

Emma is probably the Austen book most like that, the others not so much. Maybe Northanger Abbey, a bit.

The hero and heroine of North and South have quite an antagonistic relationship.

Maybe Georgette Heyer?  I've never read her but from what I've read about her-she writes those old fashioned chaste type romances.

A good Heyer with a bickering couple is The Grand Sophy. Faro's Daughter is also very good.

Loretta Chase also wrote some traditional regencies, Isabella and The English Witch.  They are mostly chaste and witty like Austen.  Her later historicals are more traditional, racy romances, though witty ones.
