Does anyone remember this book??? It is a much beloved book from my childhood. Apparently Ms. Yolen has been trying for years to get this book back in publication, and it's just not gonna happen.

I'm a huge Jane Yolen fan but I've never read that one. Is it a children's or YA book?

I've never read it either - but it is available used on Amazon.  Can you tell us a little more about it - there isn't any information with the listing.

It is about a lonely deaf girl who befriends a mermaid who has been cast out and forced to live as a human because she cannot speak. (Sorry, this is unfortunately all I can remember, and not much more helpful than any of the descriptions I've found of it. I just remember really loving this book, and I'm really mad it won't be in print again.)

I probably read it when I was about 10, maybe 11...

I think I definitely need to find this book!  I love Jane Yolen but have never heard of this one.  My favorite is definitely her book of short stories, Twelve Impossible Things Before Breakfast.

Good luck finding it. I have had it wish listed for my entire time on PBS and no copies have been posted. The cheapest used copies you will find are maybe around 5 dollars, and are probably in poor condition, used ex-library books.

Yeah I don't really mind well loved books, as long as all the words are there...

I agree Kayla. As long as I can read it, I am happy. :) Of course, I much prefer that books I receive from here are postable because I do plan on trading them again, but if I buy the book myself, I don't mind if it is well loved.

I finally  caved in and bought a used copy of this book. I splurged (thanks for the $150 Amazon GC, mom and dad!) and spent around $21 on a good, used copy that is not an ex-library. The dust jacket is in really great condition as well, considering it's a very thin paper cover. When this hardcover was new, it was $8.95 retail price. Crazy!!!

If anyone is sick of waiting for it, there is a used ex-lib being sold for $.11 plus S&H on Amazon.
