I just read that Janet Evanovich's Plum series books are becoming a movie/movies. Has anyone else heard this? The whole time I've been reading these books thinking how great it be if they made them into movies. I hear Reece Witherspoon will play Stephanie Plum.

Let me know if you heard anything about this & what you've heard.

I haven't seen anything on Plum books being turned into movies. I would love it if it was true. Can't wait for the next one to come out. I think it's out in June.

Yikes, I don't know how I feel about this.  I have a VERY specific picture of Ranger in my head, and the casting might ruin the whole series for me.  When I was about 11 years old, I read S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders and absolutely fell in love with the lead character, Ponyboy.  Years later, The Outsiders was made into a feature film with Matt Dillon as the lead.  As good as he was, he did NOT embody Ponyboy to me and ruined the story for me forever.

Reese Witherspoon is a very appealing and wonderful actress but she seems too young and obviously pretty to be Stephanie in my opinion.  I picture Stephanie less glamorous, more of a Sandra Bullock type.

Lynne,

I agree with you. Some of my friends and I on another message board were talking about possible people to play the characters when we first heard about this and Sandra Bullock was everyone's first choice for Steph. None of us could agree on the Joe or Ranger though. I'm not sure I want to see them. I love Reese but not for that role.

I loved the The Outsiders too and hated the movie. That makes me want to read the book again and it's been years. lol Thanks! I think!

Joe should be played by Eddie Ciberian, known mostly from "Third Watch".  Recently had TV roles on "Samantha Who", "Dirty Sexy Money", and "Invasion"  I think Sherry Shephard from "The View" would be a great Lula, too.  The Janet Evanovich website has lots of ideas for actors.  Sandra Bullock is the hands down winner for Stephanie.  I have read everything JE has written and love her books.  Talk about lol funny!!!

I checked out the Evanovich website and found out that the first book in the series has had the movie rights bought for it.  Janet's daughter, Alex, keeps up her website and she (Alex) said that they don't have any date that a movie will be coming out.  I check the website ofter.  The address is http://www.evanovich.com

The rights for the movie were bought a long time ago. I don't see it happening soon.

I haven't heard anything about them becoming movies but OH how I wish they would!!!

Actually I think they should make a whole tv series out of her books!

I think the perfect person to play Stephanie Plum would be Lauren Graham...she played the mom"Loreli Gilmore"

on the tv series The Gilmore Girls.

She even has the dark hair and blue eyes!

Lauren Graham.... i Love her!  She'd be good as Stephanie.  And someone mentioned Eddie Cibrian as Joe, who would be good if a little on the young side.  But I'm still at a loss about Ranger, and hope that they could find someone who absolutely IS Ranger.  There is a raw sexuality to that character that would negate any actor I already associate with another role (I think).

Collette: reread the Outsiders!  I read it again a couple years ago and still loved it.  It's funny how different a perspective one has as an adult, though.

I just recently got hooked on the Stephanie Plum books and I love them! I've been listening to them on audio tapes in my car and the reader is fantastic.

I'm not sure whether I'd want a movie or tv series. I get pictures of characters in my head, too, and don't want them ruined. My favorite book is "The Shell Seekers." I've never watched the movie because I love the characters in that book so much and I don't want a movie version to replace my version!

How about Mark Consuelos or Antonio Banderos as Ranger?  I am also picturing Ving Rhames as Tank!

I agree with the opinion that Sandra Bullock would be fantastic as Stephanie!

Ving Rhames as Tank is certainly a possibility, but the one who seems perfect to me is Michael Clarke Duncan... that man is HUGE!

I know he is a bit polarizing, but I think Keanu Reeves works (visually) as Joe. He's can grow out the hair right, has the smoldering dark eyes, and definitely looks good in the typical Joe outfit and as a cop. Plus, we know he works well with Sandra Bullock, who I agree would be the perfect Stephanie. Eddie Cibrian is also a great suggestion!

Edited to talk about Ranger!

Antonio Banderas is always the one I keep coming back to as good for Ranger, but the "problem" is that he is getting on the oldish side. Two other possibilities I thought of are Billy Zane and Benjamin Bratt (who also has the benefit of working well with Bullock).

Note: As a complete aside, Matt Dillon didn't play Ponyboy in The Outsiders movie, C. Thomas Howell did. Dillion played Dally. But I know what you mean about how "bad" casting can ruin the perfect picture you've created in your head.

This has been talked about for a few years now. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think that Lisa Rhemi (spelling?) from King of Queens would be a great Stephaine. I think Monique for Lula.

I really don't want them to make  a movie, though,  Hollywood will ruin the whole thing.

I think Lisa Rhemi would be a good Stephanie as well.  Does anyone watch Big Brother?  I feel like someone who looks like Michele would be a good Stephanie, I just can't think of an actress that fits.  I don't know how I feel about Reece; I really like her but I can't picture her as Stephanie.  I think Julia Roberts would be good.

I always pictured Sandra Bullock as Stephanie.

Lea Ramini is the one from King of Queens.  I don't see her as Stephanie.

Um a side note; Matt Dillon did not play Ponyboy in the Outsider's movie.  C.Thomas Howell played Ponyboy.  Matt Dillon played Dallas, Rob Lowe was Soda Pop and Ralph Maccio was Johnny.

Why do I remember that?

That is always the down-side to books being made into movies, once you see the movie, you can never picture anyone other than the actor who played the character when you read the books.   Thats the problem I had with The Other Boleyn Girl, the movie just didnt compare to the book.

Ranger to me would be the guy on Criminal Minds

Role: SSA Derek Morgan

I think Sandra Bullock is a bit little for Stephanie, to me... she has to have a roundishness to her and Sandra is all angles - when I read them I always think Rikki Lake for some reason - as in Hairspray! LOL!

I have the perfect actor for Ranger:  Lani John Tupu (any Farscape fans out there?)  http://www.ozfans.com/Lani_Tupu_Page1.html

For Morelli I'm thinking along the lines of Skeet Ulrich (but taller).  How about Adrian Pasdar?

Please not Reese Witherspoon for Stephanie!  Need somebody like a young Mercedes Rheul.  How about Drea de Matteo from the Sopranos?

If you go to the Internet Movie Database  www.imdb.com and look up Janet Evanovich it shows that One for the Money was made into a TV movie in 2002...Interesting, No? Wonder how many people actually saw it.
