I've got all three books of Bernard Cornwell's "Grail Quest" series (which is very good, BTW) available and will be posting them tomorrow.  They are The Archer's Tale, Vagabond and Heretic.  PM me if interested.

Taken!  Thanks, Alice!  I responded to your PM.

I have a question--is this the "wishlist" offer thread for this forum?  What's the difference between this thread and the Book deals sticky thread--is this one for books available for the normal one credit, just being offered to HF forum readers first?

Diane - We use the "available books" thread each month to give our HF buddies a chance to get them before we post.  It's just our way of sharing the HF love with our peeps!

My favorite way we use this thread is when Valli notices on the home page that some obscure HF book she's read and liked is posted into the system and she comes here to tell us about it and we all race over to order it and it goes from 2 or 3 copies in the system to 10 on the WL!

Christa - LOL!  I've pretty much decided to not read anything Valli posts because it always causes me to acquire more books or add to my wish list.  She's a bad influence. I'm considering putting her on "ignore" status.  ;)

Bwahahaha.....

Don't you put me on ignore. I won't stand for that. If you ignore me, I'll ignore you. So. There!

Okay, so it's for wishlisted or non-wishlisted books that you are posting.

And for Valli recommendations!!

Diane - we do a monthly thread instead of the Book Deals sticky thread.

Welcome!

It's just so we can get our greedy little paws on them first before the general PBS public!

And I think we use this one more for specific books, whereas the sticky thread is used more for general bookshelf deals.

Just saw this one available. Haven't read it, but it's a pretty new release and I'm suprised it isn't wishlisted. Unless it's so terrible no one wants to wishlist it; guess that's possible! :-D

The Queen's Sorrow: A Novel :: Suzannah Dunn
ISBN-13: 9780061704277 - ISBN-10: 006170427X
Copies Available: 1

Valli, I don't know anything about this author but, in checking reviews on Amazon, this does not sound like one of her better novels. Then again, who knows? Thanks for watching the postings for all of us!!

I've been trawling through the library discard bin and found something non-fictional/academic that might be of interest.

It's the December 2009 issue of "The Court Historian", published by The Society For Court Studies. The entire issue (248 pages) is about "Gift-Giving in 18th Century Courts."

Table of contents can be found here:

http://webh01.ua.ac.be/bscs/userfiles/file/Contents%20TCH%2014-2.pdf

Free with a book from my shelf or on its own, if you like.

I just weeded my library without mercy to make room for more books, if that even makes sense. LOL!

I posted a bunch to my bookshelf, many of which are the only book in the system. In addition to those on my bookshelf, I have the following WL books available. If you want one (or more), please put the ISBN in your WL and PM me. I'll post them to your WL.

  • The King's Favorite by Susan Holloway Scott, 9780451224064
  • Company of Liars by Karen Maitland, 9780440244424
  • The White Company and Sir Nigel by Arthur Conan Doyle, 0760768900
  • The October Horse by Colleen McCullough, 0671024205
  • Caesar by Colleen McCullough, 0060510854
  • Antony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough, 9781416552956

I'll keep these WL books off PBS until Friday, 15 Jan. At that time, I'll post any that aren't claimed here.

Someone should grab "Company of Liars" from Genie! Ir was really good! I can't wait to read her next one, "The Owl Killers". I'll probably end up buying it, even though I'm first in line, because her books don't seem to get posted often. I've been first for Owl Killers since the ISBN was first released and I don't think even one copy has ever been posted. That's a shame though because her last book was so good. I wonder if these are UK only books....

Someone snag this book while there is an available copy!!

Donna - Good snag!  Company of Liars is excellent!  It was one of my top 5 books for 2009.  The Owl Killers is good too, but I liked COL better.
