New month and new year.  I just finished Lily Cigar by Tom Murphy. I loved, loved it.  This book was discussed here not long ago and I was fortunate enough to obtain one and would like to offer it to everyone here before FIFO. It is a hard book to find.  Happy New Year to everyone.

My offers are up in the red sticky thread "Book Deals, Offers, Bookshelf Promotions" per PBS forum guidelines.  Feel free to check them out there.

Methinks this is Elizabeth's way of telling us that we are supposed to post our available books in the red, sticky thread;)

(I agree -- since we have a sticky thread, we might as well use it.)

I have to disagree. I honestly don't look at the sticky thread, and since it doesn't refresh I don't know when new books are posted.  I think we should keep this thread going. What say others?

I like this thread.  I think it gets lost if it goes into the gigantic stickied thread.   And as a new thread it generates more interest, IMO.

Ok -- if folks don't want to use the sticky thread, let's get rid of it. I don't particularly care one way or another -- I just think we should all use the same thread. Elizabeth, are there PBS rules that suggest we can't have a monthly thread?

I agree that we should just get rid of the sticky thread - one or the other. I've found this rather confusing for some time now! Everyone seems to prefer the monthly thread.

I personally prefer the monthly thread because when I come in this forum I usually check the 5 or so most recently posted to topics and thats it.  I never remember to check the sticky thread at the top.  The sticky thread does say posts in the main area may be deleted without warning but I just checked and at least 5 other forums have monthly available WL book threads and it doesn't look like any have been deleted.

While we are on this topic I have to ask: is anyone using the other sticky " tagging historical fiction"? (My apoligies to Beth.) Doesn't seem like we really need that one either - or is it just me?

I don't pay any attention to the sticky threads and think the monthly thread are much easier to follow anyway. Are we breaking any rules?

My understanding of  the way they do it on other forums like L&R is this:

The sticky thread is for ANY promotion of your bookshelf..."Hey I just posted four John Grisham books..check them out!"  or "I'm offering a great deal....four books for 1 credit"....etc.  You aren't allowed to make those kinds of posts anywhere except the sticky threads at the top of each forum, and on the Book Bazaar forum.  If those kind of posts are made elsewhere and get reported to TPTB, they will get deleted and you may get your hand slapped.

The monthly thread is for WL books available.  The only place you are allowed to offer WL books outside of FIFO is in the monthly threads, and the monthly WL Multiples thread on the Book Bazaar.

I agree that it is hard to see when there is something new in the sticky thread at top, but I know that when I have offered a deal on my Bookshelf and posted it in the sticky thread, I have gotten pretty good response to it, so somebody must be reading it!

I agree about the tagging thread.  I think it has served it's useful life.

That is how we the one in the Mystery/Thriller forum works,

I'm within 100 pages of finishing Lily Cigar and unless I drop it in the drink, it will be available tomorrow. Anyone interested? It has 6 out of 6 5-star reviews on that other site; I would give it a solid 3.5 ... but that's just me & as I finally admitted to Linda earlier today, maybe I'm just being too critical where this book is concerned. (From the Challenge perspective, it is set in America in 1800's & it spans 52 years.) ... Kelly

Not HF, but I have a read-just-once paperback copy of Belong to Me. My mom read it for book club and the synopsis didn't really interest me so it's up for posting. PM me if you would like it. It's the "B&N Recommends" paperback version so it has a discussion section in the back and the ISBN doesn't turn up in the Amazon search, FYI.
