Jean Rabe is a fantasy and sci-fi author and editor who has worked on the Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, and BattleTech series, as well as many others. Early in her career she worked for the Quincy Herald-Whig in Quincy, Illinois, and then for the Evansville Courier & Press in Evansville, Indiana. She went on to work for TSR, Inc., for the RPGA, writing magazine articles, writing and editing Dungeons & Dragons and Gamma World gaming modules and eventually novels. Some of her more notable works includes her collaboration with Mercedes Lackey in the Halfblood Chronicles.
Although noted for her work in her writing in Dungeons & Dragons, her novel Dragon Mage was awarded a Flamingnet Top Choice Award. Other achievements included being awarded the Grand Master title by the Science Fiction Writers of America and receiving Life Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention. Her work The Finest Creation was the 2004 winner for Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Young Adult Top 40.
Three of her Star Wars short stories namely "The Breath of Gelgelar", "Day of the Sepulchral Night", and "The Farrimmer Cafe" have been published in the Star Wars Adventure Journals.
Jean has been working as an editor since 1995 on a BattleTech magazine, MechForce Quarterly. In 2005 she also served as a juror in New Andre Norton Award for young adult fiction.
