I just saw on face book that she just received the copy edits for Trouble Bones.  As you do on face book I said, I can't wait to read this, and I had just said as much on the historical fiction forum that I frequent.  To which she replies "Oh which forum is that?  Do they like guests?"   My first thought was when Angus Donald popped in and how fun that was.  My next thought was how PBS doesn't like authors flogging their books on the forums.  But doesn't mind if an author like Angus pops in and says thanks for noticing me!

In the read along thread I brought up the possibility of reading Westerson as I am in love with Crispin and Jack, and it is a really good series.

Having followed Jeri Westerson on face book she talks about meeting with book groups in her area, and how she enjoys meeting her readers.  Well a little germ of an idea had take root.  Why don't we slate Veil of Lies as the June read along, it will also fit into many of the main challenge categories as well as the H/F mystery challenge.  I will see if Jeri Westerson might agree to come and join in our discussion.   Well the opportunity popped up tonight for me to ask her.  I screwed up my courage and asked.  I have not heard back yet, and I know that we vote on what we read next so I hope you all don't think I am being a Dictator but this is such a cool opportunity, that I couldn't pass up the chance to ask her.

What do you think please be gentle?

From TPTB  Thanks a million Richard!

Dear Jerelyn,

Thanks for writing in to ask.  We think this would be fine, although of course Jeri would have to create a PaperBackSwap account in order to participate in the discussion forums. She doesn't have to give her mailing address or post any books for swapping.

Having an author participate in a conversation about her book when that conversation was initiated by someone else is different from having an author starting new threads to say "Hey, did you know you can buy my books at Amazon?" and that's really what we don't want.

If she is interested in being interviewed for the PBS blog she can contact us at blog@paperbackswap.com.

Thank you for being a Charter Member of the best book club in America. Please tell everyone who enjoys reading about our club, because the more members we have the more books for everyone to trade!

We hope this information is helpful. Have a great day!

The PaperBackSwap Team

Now I just have to figure out how to pull this off!

She just got back to me and said she is willing and said,

I've done that very thing a lot, mostly on speaker phone and in person. Book clubs really love to have the author there so they can ask questions about characters and plot. I always find the questions to be intelligent and interesting.

After thinking about it I wrote to Beth (Cattronia) and asked what she thought, she advised me to send a request to the feedback form which I just did so it is in the lap of the Gods I will let you know what TPTB decide.

I hope I haven't broken the rules too badly and that if I have I do beg your pardon.

Letty, I think that's a GREAT idea!!  How cool would it be to have the author here with us in our discussion!

See, the thing about dictators is that, if they have a good idea, it's okay....wink

Oh, Letty, you rule-breaker and dictator -- what are we to do with you??

(besides thank you for such a great idea)

I have to say, I'm not sure if I should be flattered or if Jerelyn should be alarmed that I'm apparently her 3am "voice of reason"  devil

I hope TPTB give their blessing -- it sounds like fun.

Ha Beth!  I must admit I had expected that you would get back to me in the morning, but not quite that early.  wink

I haven't heard back from TPTB yet, but it hasn't even been 24 hours yet.

I am really tickled,  I was living in dread thinking they would say no!  Pack your books and go you are ejected from our site.surprise

JW is really very excited and was very gracious.  I hope she will sign up and lurk about a bit and see what we are all about.  The blog would give her wonderful exposure as well.

I know that we arn't all mystery lovers but these are such good books.  I know that Jeanne, Kelly,  Linda and I have read them but it dosen't mean that they can't  join in.  I am going to tell the mystery/thriller forum about this as well, maybe they would like to join in the read along and discussion.

Letty, you know that so far, I've read all three books, and I just found an ISBN for Troubled Bones -9780312621636. I get her newsletter (as well as Rennie Airth's, Stephen Booth's and blog comments from Angus Donald) and I just love these things. Then I go searching - and found that TB won't be released until Oct. 2011 and it's $25.99 for pre-order on amazon. I hit the "I would like to read this on kindle" button - we'll see what happens.

I'll pop into the read-along from time to time. It will be fun to refresh my memory about these books! And BTW, this is exciting -so glad you reached out and did this!!! smiley

Anna, Veil of Lies it is the first book in the series.

Jeanne,  I am certain it will be released on kindle as well.  Hey you have a question for her when she comes.
