Sid Fleschman has a knack for presenting an interesting adventure story which looks at some very real problems. In this one the orphan boy has to sort good from bad and come to understand the differences in people and accept their bad points as well as their good points.

Suddenly twelve year old Jake is an orphan. All he has left is his father's wolflike dog. Soon, events happen that make Jake second guess if his father is really dead. This is a great book for students ranging from third to sixth grade.
