A widowed English teacher, eight young girls, and a sailor John Dollar are alone and threatened on a remote island off the coast of Burma in this fourth novel from Marianne Wiggins. Compelling, disturbing, and seductive, John Dollar is a haunting tale, a literacy tour de force, and a major work of fiction from a talented and provocative writer.
You will never read a more disturbing book. Well written, even lyrical, but some of the images will be burned into your head and you might wish they were not. None-the-less, I have recommended this book many times.
