Early John Saul.  I enjoyed the books he wrote in the 80s, but haven't enjoyed the later works as much.  Not sure if my taste changed or if his style did.

I prefer early John Saul.  I was also wondering if it was me who changed or him.

I perfer both of their early works.  Have not read newest books by either.  I've definitly switched to the brian keene, wrath james white, bryan smith, jack ketchum crowd.

Wrath James White is a diabolical genius!  I also really like Gord Rollo, but hardly ever see him mentioned in this forum.

I have to say Dean Koontz. From The Corner Of His Eye turned me into a reader. I love Koontz's work!

I love John Saul, I have liked every one of his books, some take a while to get into but I love his novels.

John Saul for sure.  I used to love Dean Koontz and read only books by him for quite a while.  I soon got burned out on him.  In addition, he has gotten tedious and now seems to churn out alot of crap.  Here are 2 fantastic authors who have not written enough new horror novels lately: Robert R. McCammon and Peter Straub!

I liked both of them in my pre-teen thru teen years.  But as I got older, I lost interest in them both.  I guess my favorite by Dean Koontz is The Watchers and Twilight Eyes.

Id have to say its a hard choice because they both have their good books i have all of john sauls books and over 100 of koontz and have read alot of both if i had to pick id say koontz johns getting a lil lazy now days lol, but to be honest i think their both about even. Im reading richard laymon books right now i love his books and he wasnt afraid of getting a little crazy at all! its sad that laymon had to pass away..

Yes, it is a great loss to horror readers that Laymon died.
