This book gives you a personal view of how John may have been. It's compelling reading and makes you want to read the books of John in the bible so you can gain a greater understanding and insight. It makes John more human and yet gives the saintly a new quality. It has discussion questions, etc. in the back so it would be good for a bible study class.

An interesting take on the Apostle John's last days on the earth. The fictionalized version of his reason for writing his gospel account and how Revelation came about was interesting. But the writing itself left much to be desired; a typical Christian novel - great story idea that flat-lined in character development and plot!

This is a wonderfully written novel, by Tim LaHaye. He takes literary efforts tobring us a story of how John's life could have been, the last discipple of Jesus Christ, finished out his days. The story begins with John imprisoned and after being boiled in oil and surviving, the story takes you through his life as a teacher. He mentors and keeps the church going while preaching to others of the time.
The story takes place around 95 A.D. which places John in his 90's. I highly recommend this series, known as the Jesus Chronicles, which is a series of four books.

A fascinating version of the book of John. Reading this in the author's (John) perspective helped me commit the content of the actual events to memory. The details added by LaHaye and Jenkins made it come to life - imagining John an old man, in detail, frail, tired but finding renewed strength when God gave him a task made it even more relatable.

This is another awsome book in the End Times series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins. A wonderful and informative read. I recommend it highly, Jeanette

Plot: This is a fictionalized account of John writing his account of the gospel as well as his account of the revelation he received from God as accounted in the book of Revelation.
Characters: There wasn't really character development because of the nature of the way the book was written. There was however, accounts of things that happened to John in the later parts of his life. John also recounts his time with Jesus during most of the book.
Themes: The major and most important theme in this book (as in the Gospel of John) is establishing Jesus as the Son of God. John's account of the gospel focuses on the things that Jesus said and did to establish Himself as the Messiah.
Emotion: Unlike reading The Gospel of John or Revelation out of the Bible, this book didn't really evoke emotion. It did however, give new perspective, insight and understanding of the familiar books.
Overall: This was a very hard book to try to rate. It was a very easy read, especially if you are familiar with the Bible. I highly recommend it if you are a new Christian, or if you are not a Christian but are interested in Biblical stories. The fiction nature of this book makes it much more easy to read and understand than Bible versions (however, it should not be read as a replacement of the Bible). The book also does contain at the end, the five books written by John from the New King James version of the Bible (The Gospel of John, The First Epistle of John, The Second Epistle of John, The Third Epistle of John, and Revelation).

This story of how John may have come to write his books that are in the Bible are so fascinating. It brings to life john and the trials of the early Christians and where applicable it quotes the Bible exactly. It also illustrates the protection that God can provide to His believers. Highly recommend.
