Always enjoy James Lee Burke's writing - it may include a lot of murder and mayhem but is always so lyrical that it could be poetry or song. This one has a chilling villain and some extra pressures on Dave. Glad to see it resolved but hated for the book to end.

I always enjoy Detective Dave Robicheaux and the Iberia Parish gang. For a guy with alot of baggage he manages to keep it together and get the bad guys. The characters in James Lee Burke's Robicheaux series are alive (and sometimes dead)at least to my mind. A good read.

THIS TENSE, BRUTAL BUT ALWAYS INTERESTING DAVE ROBICHEAUX STORY OF RAPE, MURDER, AND VIOLENCE. THIS UNABRIGED SELECTION HAS 9 CASSETTE TAPES RUNNING APPROX. 15 HOURS - WRITTEN BY JAMES LEE BURKE AND READ BY MARK HAMMER.

I've read a couple James Lee Burke books and liked them. This was just too gritty-and it takes a lot to turn me off. I couldn't get past the second tape. A lot of characters and a lot of sexual descriptions. Not for the faint of heart, by any means.

by James Lee Burke.

Loved this book!

Police detective Dave Robichaux in New Iberia, Louisiana doesn't buy the obvious solution to some vicious crime but keeps digging, even when lots of dangerous people want him to stop. His buddy Clete Purcel is on hand to watch his back and take up with a few lovely ladies while he's at it.

Legion Guidry is a scary character, the embodiment of evil, cold calculating truly sadistic evil.

Love the depictions of the backwoods blues clubs and deep country Louisiana settings.

A definite recommendation for a satisfying, colorful read.

This story was as good as all his others.I found however, that you must keep a dictionary next to you when reading his prose.

South Louisiana - having lived there in a previous life, I recognized some of the characters. A steamy plot takes you through south Louisiana introducing you to true evil and interestingcharacter relationships

Another beautifully written book about Dave Robicheaux. This one seems to have more violence in it than some of the others. The character is so well drawn and his inner feelings so strongly described that he seems to be an extension of the author, Burke. I highly recommend it.

Dave Robicheaux in another of the suspenseful, gritty thrillers set in New Iberia, Louisiana. It's not your run of the mill mystery, and probably not everybody's cup of tea. But James Lee Burke is unique among thriller writers.

Great narration and intriguing and engaging audio book. Deep in the South with some very BAD characters and many victims. Blues singer accused of horrendous murder in the wilds of Louisiana laments death. Robicheaux tangles with a devil of a half man and half monster but help arrives from a mysterious stranger.
