He received the University of Missouri School of Journalism's honor medal for career achievement. His book jacket biographies record that his reporting forced J. Lynn Helms, chief of the Federal Aviation Administration, to resign, and dogged President Ronald Reagan's National Security Advisor Richard V. Allen for conflicts of interest.
