Led by Rooster, Donkey, and a jaunty Mouse, the Creatures make their way to the Crib and beyond. Their adventures, told through music and narrative, are based on legends, tales, and carols, ancient and new. This versatile cantata can be adapted to any venue and cast with the voices and instruments changed according to available resources. The Journey is scored for two choirs (SATB and Children in Unison), with solo parts for mezzo-soprano, tenor, and bass, a Narrator, and optional actors. It can also be sung in unison with the different characaters coming from groups within the choir. An organ or piano accompany throughout and could take the parts of the optional solo trumpet and flute. Overall running time is approximately 50 minutes. A favorite work in Britain.« less
